This book is an abbreviated autobiography with emphasis on finding meaning and guidance in my life. Additional personal relationships and views on subjects such as environmental science, religion, politics, etc. can be found in my book series "The World According to Vern". I have included a large number of photos at various stages in my life. I have included photo coverage of the 1952 flood in Council Bluffs, Iowa and go on to discuss the importance of flood plain zoning. I also include grade school class photos and brief discussions of interactions in grade school.Although I have attended Church throughout my entire life, I have strayed from my moral values only to return and finally to find peace in my beliefs based on the life of Jesus Christ. No matter how hard are parents strive to protect us and prepare us for events in life we ultimately are on our own in dealing with every day temptations, weakness and decisions. It is apparent that life is like a race course. Decisions good or bad, often made instantaneously seldom can be reversed. Ultimately, I resign myself to Christ.

Looking Glass: A Man's Reflections Within the Scope of Dating & Relationships
A healthy relationship with Self equals healthy relationships with others. A lot of us are broken. Left to figure out what a relationship is and our responsibilities in it. However, we can no longer use what we weren't taught as reasons not to move forward and experience authentic love and healthy relationships. Instead, we must be intentional. Looking Glass is for women looking to experience a rare glimpse of a man's transparency. To get insight into what men think about dating and relationships from a place of deep reflection and love. Not from a place driven by fear, false perceptions, and hyper-masculinity. This book is also for men looking for better ways to relate to their feelings and articulate them in healthy ways within their relationships. The goal of Looking Glass is to develop common empathy and to build a bridge for deeper communication between the sexes.

Virginia Vernon was responsible for the welfare of ENSA performers around the world during the Second World War. Her fluent French, a result of studying in Paris as a teenager, and her understanding of theatre after a successful career on Broadway made her an ideal candidate, so in 1939, the 46-year-old was recruited to bring morale-boosting entertainment to British troops in France. She soon discovered that “welfare” was a catch-all for many activities; much more than simply arranging accommodation for artistes and meeting performers on arrival. Battling grief after the loss of her husband, contending with male chauvinism in the Army, and travelling through the most inhospitable places, along the way Madam V won the support and admiration of royalty, the military, and the stars of stage and screen, gaining a fearsome reputation for achieving the impossible. This new study tells the story of her wartime journey, from Arras in 1939 to V.E. Day in Rangoon.
