This lovable new series introduces a little dog with a GIANT personality Fenway is an excitable and endlessly energetic Jack Russell terrier. He lives in the city with Food Lady, Fetch Man, and--of course--his beloved short human and best-friend-in-the-world, Hattie. But when his family moves to the suburbs, Fenway faces a world of changes. He's pretty pleased with the huge Dog Park behind his new home, but he's not so happy about the Evil Squirrels that taunt him from the trees, the super-slippery Wicked Floor in the Eating Room, and the changes that have come over Hattie lately. Rather than playing with Fenway, she seems more interested in her new short human friend and learning to play baseball. His friends in the Dog Park next door say Hattie is outgrowing him, but that can't be right. And he's going to prove it Get a dog's-eye view of the world in this heartwarming, enthusiastic "tail" about two best friends. "A fun, fresh frolic that animal-loving kids are sure to enjoy." --Publishers Weekly "Readers will relate to Fenway's impulsivity and delight in descriptions from his dog's-eye view. Teachers and adults will appreciate generous sprinklings of rich vocabulary." --School Library Journal

With extensive commentary about their historical context and theological significance, this volume of writings covers a crucial time and an understudied period of Bonhoeffer's life. It begins during the final period of his illegal work in training Confessing Church seminarians and concludes as he begins his activities in the German resistance. Bridging these two periods is his brief journey to the United States in summer 1939, when he pondered and ultimately rejected a move to the safety of exile. Bonhoeffer's writings from this transitional period, particularly his New York diary, offer a rare and more deeply personal picture of Bonhoeffer in a time of great inner turmoil.

Volume 11 in the sixteen-volume Dietrich Bonhoeffer Works English Edition, Ecumenical, Academic, and Pastoral Work: 1931-1932, provides a comprehensive translation of Bonhoeffers important writings from 1931 to 1932, with extensive commentary about their historical context and theological significance. This volume covers the significant period of Bonhoeffer's entry into the international ecumenical world and the final months before the beginning of the National Socialist dictatorship. It begins with Bonhoeffer's return to Berlin in June 1931 after his year of study in the United States. In the crucial period that followed, Bonhoeffer continued his preparations for the ministry, began teaching at Berlin University, and became active at international ecumenical meetings. His letters and lectures, however, also document the economic and political turbulence on the European and world stage, and Bonhoeffer directly addresses the growing threat of the Nazi movement and what it portends not only for Germany, but for the world. Several of the documents in this volume, particularly the student notes of his university lecture on "The Nature of the Church" and his lectures on Christian ethics, give important insights into his theology at this point. His ecumenical lectures and reports are significant documents for understanding the ecumenical debates of this period.

Tens of thousands of students begin each new school year with the hope that they will finally find the teacher who will help them succeed as readers, writers, and learners. This book shows how teachers can provide the type of differentiated instruction that struggling readers need by drawing on students' individual and cultural backgrounds, as well as the results of classroom-based diagnostic and progress-monitoring assessment measures. The authors include authentic examples and case studies from diverse primary and intermediate/middle school classrooms to show how instruction can be implemented and adjusted to accommodate students' individual differences--differences that are influenced by their schools and instructional backgrounds, their cultural and linguistic histories, their interests and activities, their reading and writing habits in and out of school, and their understandings and misunderstandings about texts, print, and digital media. Classroom teachers, reading specialists, reading coaches, and prospective teachers are invited to analyse and reflect about each case presented to help them provide the type of instruction that will change the trajectory for students who continue to fail in reading.

Unlike any other work in the field of literacy education, this book offers readers a unique and progressive approach for preparing prospective and inservice teachers, and graduate students, to effectively teach the literacy skills to K-12 students that are needed for eventual college and career success. The book is not a traditional text on professional development that focuses on, “this is what teachers need to know and be able to do as literacy teachers.” Rather, the book’s focus is on engaging teachers, as adult learners, in professional learning that is collaborative, substantive, situated, dynamic, intense, and personal. These six themes are woven throughout the book, and are exemplified through real-life scenarios that follow elementary and secondary teachers from the Blue Falls School District as they explore and expand their own professional learning about effective literacy instruction, based on student assessment, teacher reflection, and problem solving. The reader is provided with useful tools for creating literacy teams, needs assessments, reflective book study groups, effective coaching practices, and more.

The lovable little dog with a GIANT personality is back--battling something that may be worse than squirrels Life is pretty much a bag of treats when you're an endlessly energetic Jack Russell Terrier. For Fenway, days are filled with important things like defending the Dog Park from wicked squirrels, snuggling with Hattie, and catching up on the neighborhood gossip with the next-door dogs Goldie and Patches. But that all changes the day a fiendish new intruder enters Fenway's turf: he's fluffy, he twitches evilly, and he smells worse than squirrels... He's a bunny. An evil bunny. And Fenway can't fathom why, but Hattie ADORES him. Goldie and Patches warn him that short humans are fickle: sometimes they love a new pet more than an old one. Fenway can't believe his own Hattie would choose another pet over him. But taking matters into his own paws just makes everything worse. Is his heart big enough to accept that Hattie can love another pet too--and is he tough enough to take on an entire gang of evil bunnies? Get a dog's-eye view of the world in this heartwarming, enthusiastic tail about two best friends.
