अन्न पैदा करना एक प्राकृतिक प्रक्रिया है जिसमे प्रकृति का समया-अनुकूलता से सीधा संबंध है। आज के दौर में खेती-किसानी विषमताओं से भरी हुई है जिसमें जोखिम ज्यादा है। ऊपर से पूंजीवाद ने कृषि को भी अछूता नहीं छोड़ा, वहाँ भी पूंजीवाद ने अपना रंग दिखाना शुरु कर दिया है। किसान के लागत और लाभ में तुच्छ अन्तर होता जा रहा है। जिसका परिणाम लगातार गबरूओं का जाना हो रहा है। गबरू की समस्या व्यक्तिगत नहीं है जिसका हल उसे खुद निकालना है यह तो सर्वभामिक और सर्वहारी है। गबरू के जाने के बाद उसके दो बैलों को भी अभी समस्याओं से दो-चार होना है। किसानों और बैलों दोनो की समस्या आज के दौर में एक समानान्तर लाइन की तरह चलती जाने वाली प्रक्रिया प्रतीत हो रही है। अभी तो माणिक और नीलम का चरित्र चित्रण बाकी ही है।

It integrates the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity, its ecosystem approach, and the conceptual framework of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment into a comprehensive approach to biodiversity in environmental assessment. It highlights the need to consider the value of biodiversity based on its use by each stakeholder, addresses the importance of both social and economic development to reach the Millennium Development Goals, and provides insights into ways to balance present and future needs.
