The extent of Arab diffusion in the Orient in the first century BC, around 64 /63 BC, the year of Pompey's settlement in Syria, rendered by Arab groups who were moving from north to south then. Those were in the region centuries before the Romans, and migrated from south to north, from southern Arabia, north to Syria, including southern Anatolia, and parts of Mesopotamia. Such migrations took place at occasions, during the gradual destruction of the Ma'reb Dam in Yeman which took place before 447.

This chapter entails a brief case history of moving human groups of people from a place to another in Belad Al-Sham, searching for safety, security, and survival. The introduction is meant to inform the reader of the principle chain links which grew and developed, and enumerated such human movements, leading those groups of people to a happy ending in spite of the many difficulties they encountered before reaching their goals and the place they wanted to live in. Furthermore, the information is planned to treat these movements both socially and politically to the reader to advance clarity of this human outset, and therefore to understand the contents of chapters explaining the background of those moving groups, their beliefs, their characteristics and their ambitions. Including as well, the places they covered in this moving episode and the towns or cities they settled in during their long and difficult journey, and then had to leave them to reach their dream destiny. They knew they are here to make successful steps to advance human thinking, morality and charity, national belonging and learning. They were men and women of courage, and most of all, of good character, spirited and refined. However, at points the reader may counter certain information repetitions in these chapters, and those are meant, to bring attention to the principles connecting the story of those moving groups, who continued their journey to reach a destination, and give services to humanity, and advance human civilization and culture.

This book addresses important aspects of MEMS designs that are well established in engineering practice but rarely discussed in the standard textbooks. One such aspect is the ubiquitous use of tapered beams in the sensing and actuation elements of MEMS designs. As explained in this book, the tapered beam has distinct advantages over the standard rectangular beam but these advantages are often left unarticulated due to the blind trust in the finite-element models of MEMS devices. In this monograph, the authors take a fundamental, physics-based approach to the modeling of tapered beams in MEMS that is based on a rigorous perturbation analysis of the traditional Euler-Bernoulli beam. The authors demonstrate how perturbation methods combined with symbolic modeling and the tools of computer algebra enable the development of semi-analytical models for tapered-beam MEMS elements. They pay particular attention to the application of these novel models to piezoelectric MEMS energy harvesters with tapered-beam elements, including the development of lumped-parameter circuit models that can be readily used for fast electro-mechanical simulations. Another important aspect of MEMS designs that is extensively addressed in the book is the uncertainty quantification (UQ) of tapered-beam MEMS elements using both Monte Carlo and polynomial chaos expansion methods. These UQ methods are applied to the design of variation-aware piezoelectric energy harvesters. With consistent focus on MEMS devices with tapered beam elements, this up-to-date monograph

The spread of COVID-19 had a profound impact on swaying public discourse and policy priorities during the 2020 presidential campaign. This dissertation aims to examine the extent to which President Joe Biden's deployment of modality in his COVID-19 tweets shaped public sentiment and vaccination rates in the United States. Drawing upon an extensive dataset of 4057 tweets from President Biden's official X account between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021, this study applied an integrative content analysis framework, emphasizing the use of epistemic and deontic modal verbs. Analysis revealed prominent themes such as public health measures, community engagement, health consequences, economic fallout, and scientific breakthroughs. Modal verbs like WILL, NEED TO, and HAVE TO emerged as key linguistic tools to build confidence, recommend health protocols, and rally collective effort, molding attitudes and responses to the epidemic. Spearman correlation test showed positive associations between modal usage, social media engagement metrics, and vaccination rates. It also underscored the importance of President Biden's use of modality in expressing his political positioning.
