I was distinctly uncomfortable with myself in my early twenties. I suffered great pain and didn't know why; I couldn't explain it, let alone find a remedy for it. I strived to do the right thing, but my thoughts and feelings were often wrong and negative. This inner struggle was so intense and persistent that I was eventually forced to give up a brilliant military career. I began to practice Yoga and meditation in my early thirties in an attempt to find peace with myself. As my practice deepened, I began to get an understanding of these difficulties. I also found remedies. These insights, expressed as poetry in this book, were divinely inspired and served as a source of inner guidance for me. I am hopeful that these sentiments may also provide similar inspiration to a troubled soul.

Gordon Long, a long-time devotee from Toronto, lovingly chronicles his knowledge and experiences of Yogacharya Oliver Black. Yogacharya Oliver, a Detroit businessman and millionaire turned yoga teacher, was a direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi. Along with his own personal views about and interactions with Black, the author records those of a number of others who knew and were taught by Yogacharya Oliver: Evelyn "Betty" Howard, Steve Sandner, Ian Wylie, Irmgard Kurtz, and Peggy Braden. He relates Yogacharya's inspiring experiences with architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the yogis Rishi Grehwhal and Hamid Bey, and numerous poignant interactions with guru Yogananda. For the first time in print, the reader can absorb Yogacharya's wisdom and insights about such timely topics as Song of the Morning Ranch, the retreat he founded in 1970 in northern Michigan; devotion; karmic law; the astral world; and Kriya yoga practice. In addition, Long records Yogacharya Oliver's informal responses to questions about his inventions and his life as a businessman. This book gives the reader deep insight into the expanded consciousness that Yogacharya Oliver personified and shared with those who knew him.

Long-time devotee Peggy Braden shares touching experiences of her time with Yogacharya John Oliver Black. At one time renowned yogi ParamahansaYogananda's "oldest living disciple," Oliver Black was many things to many people. As a respected Detroit businessman during the heyday of automotive manufacturing in the mid-20th century, he became a millionaire at the age of 30. A friend and associate of people like Frank Lloyd Wright and Howard Hughes, he found salvation from the pressures of the fast-paced business world when he became involved in the ancient sciences of yoga and meditation. Yogananda personally guided and encouraged Black as he taught his classes at the Detroit Institute of Arts to students from around the nation. Eventually Yogacharya founded an 800-acre retreat, Song of the Morning, in northern Michigan that still operates today. Peggy Braden spent many years under the guidance of Yogacharya Oliver in Detroit and later at the retreat. She recounts her experiences with him and also the story of his passing, as she was present at the moment of transition.

"Re-union of soul and Spirit, after so long living in the Great Divorce from God, is the theme for this life-time. . . . To find the real resolution from suffering is the work we are here to do.The key to gaining spiritual freedom . . . is the ability to learn from our experience. This ability to learn from experience is basic to all growth. So many people repeat the same errors and expect different results: this is insanity. The soul who wishes to really grow must be a keen observer of cause and effect, for this is the universal law of creation. How can we remain in a shadow existence when that is not who we are? Realize that there is much more to us. Let us demand our birthright, proclaim our freedom, and manifest all that we are in truth. This is the task for which we have come and it waits for us to step into the Divine Image and Likeness of who and what we truly are."- Yogacharya DavidYogacharya David, as a modern Western yogi, found his way through materialism and the five-sense bound nature that seems to have captured humankind to discover a new understanding of truth-the sacred, ancient, yogic science of truth. Join Yogacharya David as he shares his journey and seeks the infinite soul-force-mankind's unique spiritual heritage-he finds the path that is seeded in the sovereign heart of each individual. As Yogacharya David shares his marvellous and perilous pilgrimage of sacred discovery with us, we too can embody more conscious soul-force, birthing a new re-union of soul and Spirit.

We all may wonder about the marvellous Sanskrit word Dharma, or life purpose, it has become a common term in the English language. But what does it really mean? In this small compendium, Yogacharaya David outlines, in short easy-to-read Dharma-lessons, how each of us can find a path towards a steadfast connection with our inner truth or sacred soul-force. The teachings bring forward the holy science that describes the creation of the cosmos and explains how the microcosm of humankind-each one of us-is a reflection of the macrocosm of all creation. We come to understand what a wonderful body temple we have and learn methods for activating our full potential. The search for the sacred has been with humankind since the beginning of time as shared in the earliest transcriptions from ancient sculpture, cave art, and writing. Yogacharya David (1954-2019), a Western man born in Washington State, USA, dedicated his adult life to the search inward; constantly seeking to reawaken the highest order of sacred, spiritual-universal connection with the cosmic Divine.

The Ancient Yogis have always known about the immense powers that lie deep within all of us. How we think - our attitudes, outlook and mindset has a definite effect on what we are able to achieve in life. This view is exemplified in many of the most popular new age self-help and personal improvement strategies like: "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," "How to Win Friends and Influence People," and "The Secret," just to name a few. In fact, at the heart of any strategy for positive personal transformation is one thing - changing the way you think. "The Yoga of Mind Control" presents a concise sketch of the yogic view of the mind, the nature of our thoughts and the critical role that they play in shaping our lives. More importantly, it outlines how to unlock that enormous mental potential for our own personal growth and success. It also illustrates how our thoughts can influence others and the world around us, and the powerful potential this personal force has for contributing to transformation on a global scale. Our thoughts and their influence in creating who we are, what we are able to achieve in life, and even the state of the world around us, remains an untapped and potent force within all of us. The ancient yogis discovered exactly how to unlock that enormous inherent potential. "The Yoga of Mind Control - Mind Power Secrets of the Ancient Yogis" is a much-needed unveiling of that knowledge.
