In Africa, and especially in Benin, in the commune of Abomey-Calavi, parents consider the question of sexuality to be a taboo. For them, talking about it with teenagers means inciting them to deprave African habits and customs. However, some television programs, including Western films, have made sexuality a public topic that can be discussed anywhere, at any time, and with anyone, regardless of gender or age. The question is how Western television movies influence the sexual practices of adolescents. We adopted a qualitative research approach. Thus, three actors were identified: adolescents aged 12 to 18, parents and resource persons. The techniques (documentary research, observation, individual interviews and focus groups) and data collection tools (observation grid and interview guide) were used for these actors. The results obtained indicate that there is a lack of parental authority in the family circle.

Yves Congar's Theology of the Holy Spirit

Yves Congar's Theology of the Holy Spirit

The French Dominican theologian Yves Congar is recognized by many as the most important Roman Catholic ecclesiologist of the 20th century. He was the thinker behind some of the major decrees of the Second Vatican council. He was also a leader in the ecumenical movement in Europe throughout most of the century. Despite his importance, there are few books about Congar in English. Congar's pneumatology, argues Groppe, can enrich various ongoing theological discussions, including reflection as to whether the church should be hierarchical or a democracy, the development of "persons in communion" as a framework for contemporary theological anthropology and ecclesiology, and deliberations about the personhood of the Holy Spirit.

This volume explores how poets use different kinds of formal experimentation to change the way we think, and to allow us to try out new ways of perceiving existence and positioning ourselves within the world. Yves Bonnefoy and Jean-Luc Nancy: Ontological Performance examines the affinities that exist between Bonnefoy's poetry and Nancy's philosophy. It analyses how Bonnefoy experiments with the poem's act of address, its material disposition, and sonorous performance. It scrutinises how he foregrounds the bodily and material forces that are at play within language in order to makes us feel the diverse worldly forces that are active within us and to make us perceive our own human existence in more interconnected ways. Exploring how Bonnefoy and Nancy share the desire to resist detached ways of perceiving existence, this book analyses how they present interaction as the generative dynamic that drives all existence and use the text's resonant play to make us aware of how all bodies--human, material, or poetic--emerge from a complex interplay of worldly forces.

An Yves R. Simon Reader is the first collection of texts from the entirety of the philosopher's work. French Catholic (and then American) political philosopher Yves R. Simon was a student of Jacques Maritain and one of the most important figures in the revival of Thomism. His work, however, is still little known in English, and there is as yet no English biography of him. In An Yves R. Simon Reader: The Philosopher's Calling, Michael D. Torre provides an erudite and helpful introduction to Simon's life and thought. The volume contains selected key texts from all of Simon's twenty books, half of which were published posthumously, dividing them into three sections. The first fundamentally defends the Aristotelian and Thomistic account of human knowing. The second begins with his groundbreaking discussion of human freedom and ends with his account of practical wisdom. The third then expands this account to cover the chief concerns of his social and political philosophy. The selections are long enough to be substantive and contain sustained and complete arguments. Each selection has its own foreword by an eminent commentator, familiar with Simon's work, who lays out the necessary context for the reader. An Yves R. Simon Reader includes sections from several of Simon's last and most important essays: on sensitive knowledge and on the analogous nature of "act." It includes a number of excerpts from his justly famous account and defense of democratic government. The hallmarks of his work—his careful conceptual analysis, his genius for finding undervalued examples, and his talent for creating expressions that revivified an outworn idea—are on display throughout. Indeed, as one of the book's contributors says, Simon touched nothing that he did not adorn. The result is a highly readable introduction to the thought of a key and underappreciated modern philosopher. Contributors: Michael D. Torre, Jude P. Dougherty, Raymond Dennehy, John C. Cahalan, Steven A. Long, Ralph Nelson, John P. Hittinger, Ralph McInerny, David B. Burrell, CSC, Laurence Berns, Catherine Green, W. David Solomon, V. Bradley Lewis, Joseph W. Koterski, SJ, James V. Schall, SJ, George Anastaplo, Walter J. Nicgorski, John A. Gueguen, Jr., Thomas R. Rourke, Jeanne Heffernan Schindler, and Robert Royal.

Asia has long fascinated European artists. The gradual arrival of art objects and textiles from the Orient were inexhaustible sources of inspiration for painters, sculptors and of course couturiers. Yves Saint Laurent was no exception. He proposed both a literal and imaginary vision of Asia, based on a solid knowledge of its history, culture and arts, as evidenced by his personal library and the collection of works of art that he brought together with Pierre Bergé. Yves Saint Laurent’s exhibition Dreams of the Orient brings together some fifty models, accompanied by original drawings, jewelry and Asian objects that will demonstrate the process of creating clothes while establishing a visual link with their sources of inspiration. Objects from the Musée Guimet in Paris (Asian Arts Museum) and the Samuel Myers collection will be on display alongside the designer’s creations

Yves Saint Laurent is a name synonymous with style, elegance and high fashion. When he came on the scene at Dior and then started his own line, he quickly changed the way people regarded haute couture and the world of fashion itself. He revolutionized women’s evening wear when he introduced Le Smoking, a woman’s tuxedo, and made couture accessible to a younger generation. Yves Saint Laurent is Roxanne Lowit’s personal photographic history of Saint Laurent, the man and the fashion, from 1978, the year she first met him, to the last show he gave in 2002. With contributions from YSL’s muses and admirers, including Catherine Deneuve, Betty Catroux, Lucie de la Falaise, Pat Cleveland and Valerie Steele, this book represents the backstage experience at YSL’s shows as Lowit experienced them herself. Whether surrounded by beautiful models or peeking at the catwalk from the wings, every moment was a magnificent photo opportunity. Lowit shares magical moments of YSL with the world – intimate, social, absorbed in fashion – and creates a unique portrait of this towering figure of postwar couture.

A Financial Times Book of the Year: An intimate exploration of Yves Saint Laurent’s creative world, captured by photographer – and son of the couturier’s right-hand woman, Anne-Marie Muñoz – Carlos Muñoz-Yagüe. Yves Saint Laurent: Inside Out presents an extraordinarily intimate insight into a fascinating world of creativity in the latter, sumptuous phase of Saint Laurent’s career, between 1989 and his final collection in 2002. The book offers a comprehensive and multi-faceted exploration of the life of an haute couture house: from informal, atmospheric portraits of Yves Saint Laurent at work in his studio, drawing and creating, to the behind-the-scenes work of the ‘petites mains’ in the ateliers, the skilled army of artisans whose activity is rarely documented. The house’s world-famous models also feature, captured during pre-collection fittings in the house’s grandiose salons and in electric backstage moments before the shows. Private archive materials – letters, documents, drawings, and ephemera – that situate the protagonists and give context to the unique position that the young Carlos enjoyed as a ‘fly on the wall’ in this rarefied universe are also included in the book, and published here for the first time. A moving and visually stunning tribute to the iconic Yves Saint Laurent house as you’ve never seen it before, Yves Saint Laurent: Inside Out will be a must-have for fashion and photography fans.

An unforgettable journey through art history with Yves Saint Laurent as a guide. January 1962 saw the launch of the very first collection by Yves Saint Laurent. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of his couture house, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris is organizing a unique retrospective of the couturier’s work that juxtaposes his creations with art works from the collections of four major Paris institutions: the Musée d’Orsay, the Centre Pompidou, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Musée Picasso, as well as presenting a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the secrets of couture at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent. From the ancient world to pop art, Yves Saint Laurent regularly took inspiration from art history as he combined colours, carved out new forms and rethought the structure of garments in order to create his own masterpieces. Here, androgynous silhouettes and Proustian gowns stand alongside Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, feather patterns respond to Jackson Pollock’s drip paintings, flowing silhouettes merge with a mural by Raoul Dufy, Lucio Fontana’s neon lights make metallic fabrics sparkle and the motifs on a coat echo The Dance by Henri Matisse. Exploring the couturier’s deliberate homages to the masters of art and his never-ending quest for new means of aesthetic expression, this book takes readers on an unforgettable journey through art history with Yves Saint Laurent as a guide.
