He trained with exceptional people like Milton H. Erickson and Fritz Perls. He was one of the developers of Gestalt Therapy and Group Therapy. The oral history includes his training, his service in World War II, and his private practice in Dayton, Ohio. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Psychotherapy. Battino is a licensed clinical counselor who has written 8 books on psychotherapy. He is also a Professor Emeritus of Chemistry. This immensely powerful and practical book is about utilising the power of expectation in working with clients. It is the author's contention that creating an environment where the client expects to change is the foundation of doing effective very brief therapy. His own private practice is one where he rarely sees clients more than one or two times. Clients know in advance that this is the way that he works, and so their expectation is that during this session they are going to get down to the hard stuff, and resolve their concerns insofar as it is possible. This means working as if each session were the last one. This book is about all of the things that are designed to work in a single-session mode. This is not to say that some clients will need many more sessions but creating the expectation that each session will be the last creates an impetus towards change that is vital in the therapeutic process. After presenting the basic outline of this approach, the book details (chapter by chapter) the specific approaches that the author finds most useful in his work. These include Ericksonian hypnosis and psychotherapy, solution-focused brief therapy, reframing, Rossi's fail-safe methods, and ideomotor signalling. In addition, metaphor, guided metaphor, and narrative therapy are utilized, as well as many other methods. Battino has put in one place a collection of rapid and effective approaches to doing therapy. The emphasis is on the expectation of both the client and the therapist that rapid, lasting change is possible.

Det är en bok om kontraster och en graffitimålares resa den geografiska såväl som klassresan från Bergsjön till Brooklyn. Tony Rubin Sjöman växte upp som en tongivande graffitimålare i ett sverigefinskt arbetarhem i Bergsjön i Göteborg och bor sedan sju år tillbaka i New York, där hans muraler har blivit signum på såväl fabriksväggar i the Bronx, som kyrkor i Brooklyn och exklusiva shoppingdistrikt i Nolita. Winner of the 2001 New Jersey Author's Award by the New Jersey Academic Alliance Paul Wice takes the famous case of Rubin “Hurricane” Carter to another level of scrutiny as he puts the criminal justice system itself on trial. The case illustrates many of the strengths and weaknesses of our nation’s much maligned criminal justice system while affirming the power and resoluteness of the human spirit. Early on the morning of June 17, 1966, the sound of gunfire echoed through the quite streets of Paterson, New Jersey, as four people were shot, three fatally, inside the Lafayette Bar and Grill. Twenty-nine-year-old Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, a prominent professional boxer, along with his companion, John Artis, were arrested and charged with committing this brutal crime. Prosecutors would later theorize that the murders were racially motivated — Carter and Artis are black, the victims white — to avenge the killing of a black Paterson tavern owner. Despite barely credible and oft-times contradictory evidence presented by both sides, a year after the killings Carter and Artis were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. A second jury upheld the previous convictions in 1976. Artis was imprisoned until 1981, when he was released on parole. Carter remained in jail until 1988, when acting prosecutor John Goceljak elected not to pursue a third trial following the reversal of the 1976 retrial by the Federal District Court, a decision ultimately affirmed by the Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. With the release of the widely discussed movie on Carter starring Denzel Washington, the case has again become visible and controversial. Wice follows the torturous legal path of this case as it wound its way through first the New Jersey then the federal justice system for the next twenty-two years. His interpretations are informed by interviews with key members of both the prosecution and defense as well as previously unused court documents and transcripts. Wice evaluates the Carter case within a larger theoretical framework to illustrate many of the critical weaknesses of the adversary system and appeals process that is so basic to the American judicial system. Here is what can happen when police and prosecutors act unprofessionally, when critical witnesses lie, and when the justice system itself is unwilling to correct its errors or admit its mistakes.

Rubin and the lost horse of Merrithorpe This story is about an orphan boy called Rubin, who in his wanderings meets a runaway horse. Before galloping away, its prancing and posturing suggests that the horse is trying to convey a message.Then Rubin finds the first and soon after, the second of four curiously numbered golden horseshoes lying on the ground. The crone (a wise woman) sees the boy picking up the first shoe. She explains that the horse had been acquired by the Grand Duke of Merrithorpe from a horse coper and it won't stay with him because he doesn't know its name. From then on Rubin's quest is to discover its name and return the horse. In Merrithorpe village Rubin meets a signwriter, later becoming his apprentice. He finds the third horseshoe on the village green. He is taught his alphabet, numbers and MATH-ER-MAGICS at a Dame school. (The Dame is the second wise woman). He meets the smith who made the golden horseshoes and a tailor who makes him a suit, A third wise woman, a clairvoyant who can translate horse language is consulted. The translated horse message is a riddle which can solve the horse's name. Rubin sets out on an exciting adventure to the Land-of-Un where he recovers the horse.Chased by the unscrupulous horse coper and his men, the effort brings both horse and boy close to death as they emerge from a perimeter hedge of poisonous thorns. There, the combined efforts of the crone and the clairvoyant (who provides an appropriate riddle for the crone to solve), revive both horse and boy.Rubin returns the named horse to the Grand Duke but decides to keep the three horseshoes until he finds the fourth. He is given a final riddle by the Clairvoyant and this leads him to a girl who keeps chicken, the fourth horseshoe, and of course to a happy conclusion for all concerned (except the horse coper).
