Nanosatellites, CubeSats of the NewSpace Era for Space Observation 2 presents the entire life cycle of a CubeSat, from the design phase to orbital operations. The CubeSat nanosatellite carries instruments designed for space observation and study, integrated into a mechanical architecture that supports the control and communication electronics. This mechatronic system is optimized to ensure maximum robustness and reliability under operational conditions. Internal couplings within the satellite’s architecture, as well as external interactions with the space environment – whether thermal, vibrational, electromechanical, thermomechanical, electro-thermomechanical, or related to electromagnetic compatibility – are modeled using the finite element method. Environmental testing such as HALT/HASS, based on experience from previous missions and simulation results, allows for the integration of a reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) approach. This book also traces the evolution of our knowledge and methods regarding light, an essential payload component and luminous phenomena from Antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages, and discusses current advances in quantum optics, including wave-particle duality, quantum entanglement of photons, and vacuum fluctuations, sources of technological innovations.

This book illustrates, in detail, the state of the art in the multidisciplinary science of multi-physics optimization. In a context of the perpetual search for improved industrial competitiveness, the evolution of product design and optimization methods and tools appears to be a strategic necessity in view of the imperative to reduce costs. In the aeronautics sector, resources are mainly focused on forecasting and controlling the costs incurred by failures that occur at commissioning, during the warranty period, and during aircraft operation. However, in the future, new contracts for the sale of aeronautical equipment will become increasingly oriented toward sales by the hour of operation. The aim of this book is to propose new methods for reliability-based optimization, enabling an analysis of a system’s life cycle. The V-cycle allows development phases to be viewed in terms of development time and levels of integration complexity. Multi-physics Optimization is dedicated to optimization methods for multi-physics problems. Each chapter clearly sets out the techniques used and developed and accompanies them with illustrative examples. The book is aimed at students but is also a valuable resource for practicing engineers and research lecturers.

Probabilistic modeling of system performance, built primarily on the foundation of reliability theory, is referred to as reliability-based modeling. This book progressively builds up the functional complexity of system modeling. It starts by modeling the simplest system that can be designed, and then moves to the functional modeling of the multi-state system, step-by-step. Reliability-based Modeling of System Performance deals with modeling the functioning of systems by presenting its concepts, methods and mathematical tools. It is accessible to engineering students and academics who have already acquired basic knowledge of probability theory, applied statistics, differential calculus, integrals, combinatorial calculus and Boolean algebra.

There are many different ways of generating representations. This includes representations generated by living beings while comprehending reality in order to act; representations generated by the Universe during its extensive unfolding, creating physical elements and living beings; and the direct representation of elements through an animal’s sixth sense. To this list we must now add the creation of artificial consciousness, which generates representations that resemble the mental representations of humans. These representations allow robotic systems to communicate directly with each other.Fundamental Generation Systems develops a theory which presents, from the beginning, the function of this sixth sense called the “sense of informational comprehension”. This sense is understood as an ability to use the informational foundations of the Universe via a dedicated cerebral domain found in every animal.

Heat is a branch of thermodynamics that occupies a unique position due to its involvement in the field of practice. Being linked to the management, transport and exchange of energy in thermal form, it impacts all aspects of human life and activity. Heat transfers are, by nature, classified as conduction, convection (which inserts conduction into fluid mechanics) and radiation. The importance of these three transfer methods has resulted – justifiably – in a separate volume being afforded to each of them, with the subject of convection split into two volumes. This fourth volume is dedicated to convection, more specifically, the problem of particular convective transfers. Twophase convection is considered and a more recent and much lesser-known field is presented, that of phase change transfer. Particular significance is given to numerical applications, allowing the reader to handle orders of magnitude, an important point in all physics. Heat Transfer 4 combines a basic approach with a deeper understanding of the discipline and will therefore appeal to a wide audience, from technician to engineer, from doctoral student to teacher-researcher.

Various angles are considered to cover this topic, including empirical relationships and analytically approaching boundary layers, including the integral methods and numerical approaches. The problem of heat exchangers is presented, without aiming to be an exhaustive treatise. Being linked to the management, transport and exchange of energy in thermal form, it impacts all aspects of human life and activity. Heat transfers are, by nature, classified as conduction, convection (which inserts conduction into fluid mechanics) and radiation. After recalling photometry, the calculation of luminance is addressed using the theory of the black body and associated laws: Stefan, Wien. The reciprocal radiation of two surfaces in total influence is discussed extensively, and the case of finished surfaces is also considered. Heat Transfer 2 combines a basic approach with a deeper understanding of the discipline and will therefore appeal to a wide audience, from technician to engineer, from doctoral student to teacher-researcher.

This book is a general presentation of complex systems, examined from the point of view of management. There is no standard formula to govern such systems, nor to effectively understand and respond to them. The interdisciplinary theory of self-organization is teeming with examples of living systems that can reorganize at a higher level of complexity when confronted with an external challenge of a certain magnitude. Modern businesses, considered as complex systems, ideally know how to flexibly and resiliently adapt to their environment, and also how to prepare for change via self-organization. Understanding sources of potential crisis is essential for leaders, though not all crises are necessarily bad news, as creative firms know how to respond to challenges through innovation: new products and markets, organizational learning for collective intelligence, and more.

Nanoscience, nanotechnologies and the laws of quantum physics are sources of disruptive innovation that open up new fields of application. Quantum engineering enables the development of very sensitive materials, sensor measurement systems and computers. Quantum computing, which is based on two-level systems, makes it possible to manufacture computers with high computational power. This book provides essential knowledge and culminates with an industrial application of quantum engineering and nanotechnologies. It presents optical systems for measuring at the nanoscale, as well as quantum physics models that describe how a two-state system interacts with its environment. The concept of spin and its derivation from the Dirac equation is also explored, while theoretical foundations and example applications aid in understanding how a quantum gate works. Application of the reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) method of mechanical structures is implemented, in order to ensure reliability of estimates from the measurement of mechanical properties of carbon nanotube structures. This book provides valuable support for teachers and researchers but is also intended for engineering students, working engineers and Master?s students.

To develop innovations in quantum engineering and nanosystems, designers need to adopt the expertise that has been developed in research laboratories. This requires a thorough understanding of the experimental measurement techniques and theoretical models, based on the principles of quantum mechanics. This book presents experimental methods enabling the development and characterization of materials at the nanometer scale, based on practical engineering cases, such as 5G and the interference of polarized light when applied for electromagnetic waves. Using the example of electromechanical, multi-physical coupling in piezoelectric systems, smart materials technology is discussed, with an emphasis on scale reduction and mechanical engineering applications. Statistical analysis methods are presented in terms of their usefulness in systems engineering for experimentation, characterization or design, since safety factors and the most advanced reliability calculation techniques are included from the outset. This book provides valuable support for teachers and researchers but is also intended for engineering students, working engineers and Master?s students.

The final volume in the Non-deformable Solid Mechanics set, Movement Equations 5 deals with the dynamics of sets of solids. This volume provides the appropriate mathematical tools (torsor calculus and matrix calculus) to obtain and solve the equations of motion for a chain of solids. These equations are then used to acquire the information necessary for the design of mechanical systems. Also examined are the vibratory behavior of continuous (deformable) systems, rigid and deformable solids, and sets of several solids. The book concludes with a study of the response of an excited system as a function of the excitation frequency. Accompanied by detailed examples, this book is aimed primarily at students, but would also serve as a valuable support for working engineers and teacher-researchers.
