It is central thesis of Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" is that our individual need to fulfill self-interest results in societal benefit, in what is known as his "invisible hand". Adam Smith wrote The Wealth of Nations in 1776 to criticize mercantilism, which was the primary economic system at the time. Under mercantilism, it was believed that wealth was finite. Prosperity could be increased by keeping gold and precious metals and tariffing goods from other countries. Smith laid the foundations of classical free market economic theory. The Wealth of Nations was a precursor to the modern academic discipline of economics. In this and other works, he expounded upon how rational self-interest and competition can lead to economic prosperity.

The Wealth of Nations, is the magnum opus of the Scottish economist and moral philosopher Adam Smith. First published in 1776, the book offers one of the world's first collected descriptions of what builds nations' wealth, and is today a fundamental work in classical economics. By reflecting upon the economics at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the book touches upon such broad topics as the division of labour, productivity, and free markets. The Wealth of Nations is considered to be the most important substantive proposition in all of economics and a foundation of resource-allocation theory. It is that, under competition, owners of resources (labour, land, and capital) will use them most profitably, resulting in an equal rate of return in equilibrium for all uses. With more than 36,000 scholarly citations, Smith's work is the second most cited book in the social sciences published before 1950, behind Karl Marx's Das Kapital. This case laminate collector's edition includes a Victorian inspired dust-jacket.

The Wealth of Nations, also called An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, is the main work of the Scottish economist Adam Smith. Originally published in 1776, the book is today a fundamental work in classical economics. By using the Industrial Revolution as a reference, the book addresses broad topics as the division of labour, productivity, and free markets. It presents one of the world's first collected descriptions of what builds nations' wealth. Adam Smith was among the first ones to declare that wealth is created through productive labor, and that self-interest motivates people to put their resources to the best use. He argued that profits flowed from capital investments, and that capital gets directed to where the most profit can be made. Smith was a Scottish economist, a pioneer of political economy, and a key figure during the Scottish Enlightenment. He is also known as "The Father of Economics" or "The Father of Capitalism".

Considered the most celebrated classic on Economics ever written, The Wealth of Nations was penned by the preeminent scholar of the eighteenth century - the great Adam Smith. First published during the Scottish Enlightenment in 1776, The Wealth of Nations has changed the way the world looks at economics. Many scholars have been heavily influenced by this classic, as well as organizations and governments. Alexander Hamilton was influenced by Smith's masterpiece when he countered with his Report on Manufacturers. Some of the other authors that were affected by The Wealth of Nations include Ludwig von Mises, Alexsandr Pushkin, Thomas Malthus, and David Ricardo. Now widely studied in college classrooms around the world, the themes first promoted by The Wealth of Nations have remained timeless and crucial to the study to the study of economics. Smith's theory that a nation's wealth is generated by its gross national product still holds today. His classic helped influence governments to focus on real economic growth instead of building up their stores of silver and gold.

This thesis is a contribution at the intersection of a number of active fields in theoretical and experimental condensed matter, particularly those concerned with disordered systems, integrable models, lattice gauge theories, and non-equilibrium quantum dynamics. It contributes an important new facet to our understanding of relaxation in isolated quantum systems by conclusively demonstrating localization without disorder for the first time, answering a long-standing question in this field. This is achieved by introducing a family of models – intimately related to paradigmatic condensed matter models – and studying their non-equilibrium dynamics through a combination of exact analytical mappings and an array of numerical techniques. This thesis also makes contributions relevant to the theory of quantum chaotic behaviour by calculating novel, and often intractable, entanglement measures and out-of-time-ordered correlators. A concrete and feasible proposal is also made for the experimental realization and dynamical study of the family of models, based on currently available technologies.
