This delightful little story tells of a young girl's time with her grandmother as she relates to a legend of Where Hummingbirds Come From. Grandmother explains the magic waters and the beauty of this tiny bird. Where Hummingbirds Come From may well become an all-time children's classic and a perfect book for the young reader. As well as a wonderful study guide for English as a second language students. According to Wikipedia, "Luganda or Ganda, is the major language of Uganda, spoken by over sixteen million Ganda and other people mainly in Southern Uganda, including the capital Kampala. It belongs to the Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo language family. Typologically, it is a highly agglutinating language with subject-verb-object word order and nominative-accusative morphosyntactic alignment. With about seven million first-language-speakers in the Buganda region and about ten million others with a working knowledge, it is the most widely spoken Ugandan language, and as second language it follows English and precedes Swahili. The language is used in some primary schools in Buganda as pupils begin to learn English, the primary official language of Uganda. Until the 1960s, Ganda was also the official language of instruction in primary schools in Eastern Uganda.Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. Uganda is bordered on the east by Kenya, on the north by South Sudan, on the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the southwest by Rwanda, and on the south by Tanzania. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, being also shared by Kenya and Tanzania."I would like to thank Moses Bulamu for his hard work and dedication to the translation of my children's books into his native language.

With the disappearance of unwritten and undocumented languages, humanity would lose not only a cultural wealth but also important ancestral knowledge embedded, in particular, in indigenous languages.A number of these languages belong to the Natives of North America. The White Mountain or Western Apache Tribe consists of approximately 15,000 members, most of which live on a 1.67 million acre reservation in east-central Arizona. In this land their ancestors learned to be Ndee - The People. In addition to this group, there are the following Apache nations: The Chiricahua, Mescalero, Jicarrilla, Lipan, and Kiowa-Apache peoples. Though there are different languages, history, and culture, they are also related to each other.Creations by Crouch is making an attempt to produce bilingual books that will not only assist people in learning the language of their choice, but also to preserve (in some small way) languages that are in danger of becoming extinct. I was fortunate to find a native speaker from the White Mountain Apache Culture Center who was kind enough to translate this book for all of you.It is not uncommon to find words in your language or the language the book is being translated into that do not translate. This was the case in this book. There are no words for animals not of the Apache homeland and some concepts/ideas do not exist in their language. Where there is no translation it is noted throughout the book.Thank you for your purchase and I hope you find the book enjoyable.Adele M. Crouch

The chances that we'll find ourselves in a wilderness survival situation are remote, of course. However, immigrants who came to this country, to help settle the vast wilderness of the America of 1820, willingly put themselves in just such circumstances. They prepared themselves for dangerous and long treks across wide stretches of prairie, through dense forests, over mountains and through rivers, but they, too, sometimes met with perilous surprises. We meet such a pioneer in Catherine who comes to America with her family to escape war-torn Austria. Too soon after their arrival, disaster strikes and leaves Catherine to fend for herself in the wilderness of Missouri.Travel with Catherine and experience the loneliness, fear, anger, frustration and tranquility as she finds the strength to survive."An exciting adventure with romance and laughs: I loved the detail, it was just enough to picture everything without going overboard. The adventures of Catherine and the others had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. Now I am eagerly waiting to find out what happens next ""She's a true pioneer: This book made the winds of the old days stir again. The eloquence of this book captures the adventure of American wilderness before the steel caves created the sprawling metropolis that dominate the landscape today. Truly enjoyable."
