Autonomous Driving

Autonomous Driving

This book looks at the latest advances in autonomous driving, demonstrating that a future once considered science fiction is now close at hand. Acceptance of driverless cars relies on more than just the technology that delivers it; in this book the authors consider the shift in attitudes required for social acceptance and a move towards considering cars one aspect of a wider mobility solution. In addition, a clear demand is arising from gridlocked megacities across the globe. Autonomous driving offers a solution for the high pollution levels and management of the transport infrastructure where current methods are proving insufficient in places of high population density. Having highlighted the need for driverless cars, the book concludes with an ambitious agenda to ensure the successful delivery of autonomous driving. Political requirements, including investment in a new infrastructure and a commitment to collaboration across borders factors in the ten-point plan for governments seeking to establish international leaders in the latest advances in mobility services. From ethical considerations in the programming of automated driving procedures to changes in attitudes towards car ownership and design, this title is a comprehensive look at the latest revolution in mobility.
Bereicherungsverbot Und Gewalthaberhaftung: Zu Den Klagen in Id Quod Pervenit Sowie in Quantum Locupletior Factus Est

This book explores the impact of driverless cars on the economy, society and social life in the US, EU, and China. The authors outline the economic, social and individual implications of the rise of autonomous driving and present a framework to leverage this phenomenon in order to utilise time differently, improve quality of life, boost social prosperity, restructure work and welfare, and tailor all infrastructure and urban architecture to the needs of human beings.Although autonomous driving is a relatively new topic, worldwide there are already several initiatives (e.g. in Boston, Mexico City and Singapore) that very clearly demonstrate the economic, individual and social impact. One particularly interesting aspect is the remodelling of an entire city district in Shanghai into an area that will soon welcome driverless cars. In the book, these cases are presented, discussed and expanded upon through interviews with leading experts and decision-makers. This guarantees that, rather than statements remaining abstract, the reader gains insights into specific projects that involve the implementation of autonomous driving. While there are several books on the subject, this books offers a macro- versus micro-perspectivean approach that has so far not been taken in the current literature. Each author represents an important region for the development of autonomous driving, allowing them to adopt a global perspective and to work through developments, examples and cases from all three regions in the book. The authors show how autonomous driving can cut the social costs of road traffic. For this reason, the book also includes an agenda for political decision-makers to be able to truly capture this potential.

Inventing Mobility For All: Mastering Mobility-as-a-Service with Self-Driving Vehicles explores ‘Mobility-as-a-Service’ and explains the impact of this mobility concept on social and societal life, as well as on global travel behaviours. In this volume, Andreas Herrmann and Johann Jungwirth powerfully illustrate that mobility is a fundamental human right that can best be fulfilled with new autonomous vehicle development and use, showcasing how these forms of mobility will improve accessibility for the disabled, aid protection for the environment and to open how we design our cities in completely new ways.

Information technology is changing healthcare in numerous wide-ranging aspects, including significantly improving the overall quality of patient care and therefore helping to reduce limitations in people's daily lives. The Digital Pill reflects on how digital technologies can combat chronic diseases including diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular, respiratory and neurodegenerative diseases as well as mental disorders. Chronic diseases touch every family, generate infinite suffering and cause the lion's share of every countries' healthcare spending across the world. The authors carefully study a broad selection of contemporary companies and healthcare organizations that are shaping digital healthcare. They report pioneering cases from large and small technology, insurance, and pharmaceutical companies as well as healthcare providers of all sorts across the globe and bring forward patterns and corner stones of an affordable and patient centric digital healthcare. The Digital Pill is essential reading for anyone working in, engaged with or interested in understanding the future of healthcare.

Transmembrane Dynamics of Lipids

Transmembrane Dynamics of Lipids

The first and only book devoted entirely to MEMBRANE LIPID ASYMMETRY AND ITS BIOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS Transmembrane Dynamics of Lipids is comprised of contributions from expert authors from leading research groups that present up-to-date quantitative data on the formation, stability, and biological consequences of the asymmetrical organization of lipids in cell membranes. Incorporating an impressive amount of new, previously uncollected data, the book examines transmembrane asymmetry and movement of lipids in biological membranes, and methods for the measurement of transmembrane lipid motion, emphasizing the role of lipid flippases and discusses biological functions associated with lipid asymmetry. In addition, it draws attention to important new discoveries in the field, such as the correlation between malfunction of lipid flippases and human diseases such as thrombosis and cancer. The book also addresses the manifold methods that are used to measure the rate of transmembrane movement of lipids in biological and model systems. The only guide to new discoveries regarding lipids in cell membranes, Transmembrane Dynamics of Lipids is designed to appeal to biophysicists, biochemists, and cellular and molecular biologists working in the growing field of membrane research.
