Critical Service Learning Toolkit offers a strengths-based, interdisciplinary approach to promoting social competence while enhancing emotional and academic skill development. Designed as a user-friendly guide to carrying out successful CSL projects, this Toolkit provides practitioners with step-by-step assistance in planning, implementing, and evaluating Critical Service Learning (CSL) projects in elementary and high schools. CSL trains youth to become active and conscientious citizens through engagement and leadership experiences that meet real needs in the community. This approach is unique in that it places the youth/student at the center of the process. Prioritizing social and emotional learning (SEL) and school engagement, CSL changes the role of the school-based, counseling professional into that of a facilitator who encourages skill-building, reflection, and civic engagement. Cultivating self-awareness, social-consciousness, and critical-thinking skills, brainstorming and community web mapping activities serve as the cornerstone of CSL and allow youth to become comfortable articulating concerns about their communities. By extending learning beyond the classroom and into the community, CSL enhances what is taught throughout the school curriculum, at all levels, and fosters a sense of civic responsibility and social agency.

On December 19, 2019 Mark Galli, then editor in chief at Christianity Today magazine, rocked the evangelical world by calling for the removal of President Donald Trump from the Oval Office. Galli's editorial went viral immediately. The servers at the magazine crashed because of the internet traffic. By Friday Galli was featured in The Washington Post and other newspapers. President Trump tweeted against Galli. The editorial split the evangelical world and Galli became the target of major evangelical leaders like Jerry Falwell, Jr. and Frankling Graham. Other leaders went public in their support for Galli and the magazine. This resource gathers all the major news reports and opinion pieces in one volume. They are offered in chronological order, with links to the original sources.
I'm Brave, I'm Strong and I'm Bold, Because Jesus Christ Lives in Me!
I thank my Heavenly Father for the opportunity to write this book for children. Children need to know how much God loves them and He has a plan for their lives. Parents need to read and speak God's words (Holy Bible) over their lives letting them know they are unique individuals on this earth. It's time for our children to know to speak positive words, to think positive, to be brave, to be strong and to be bold in Jesus name. In Ephesians 5:1 states "Therefore be imitators of God (copy Him and follow His example), as well-beloved children (imitate their father)." We need to intimate our heavenly Father so let's get start now while they are in the womb. In Psalm 139: 1-24 and Matthew 5 (AMP) children need to know & learn who they are in Jesus. Parents, it our duty to teach them biblical principles to grow up to be strong men and women of God knowing who they are, they're our next generation.

In 1950 bebop pianist and trumpeter, Charles Freeman Lee, leaves the renowned Wilberforce Collegians Jazz Band at Wilberforce University, Ohio and heads to New York City to join the jazz scene. He gigs with pianist Elmo Hope, falls for Jenny, vibraharpist Milt Jackson's wife. He has many decisions to make. Does Freeman get the gig and the girl? "Well written and very entertaining." John Murrow, Editor of The Riff "Uniquely informed and informative, A Jazzman's Tale is especially and unreservedly recommended for community, college and university library American Music History and American Biography collections. A must read for all dedicated jazz fans " James A. Cox, Midwest Book Review "This book differs in every sense. Instead of the usual narrative format, she opted for turning the story into a screenplay. But this one is certainly different and makes for an entertaining read. Quirky departures from the norm add to the enjoyment" Ronald Atkins, Jazz Journal "Johnson perfectly captures the tone, tenor and language of the mid-century jazz musician. A fast-moving, highly entertaining and transportive read, visually evocative, with language that echoes the spirit of improv. This book is a literary fugue in three parts" Debbie Burke, jazz author Annette Johnson is a writer with an interest in the life stories of musicians. She is on Twitter @jazzmanstale and you can email her at [email protected]. She is a jazz fan and enjoys films and music. This book, A Jazzman's Tale, contains three parts: A. The Screenplay This funny, well written screenplay is based on live interviews with the jazzman protagonist, Charles Freeman Lee in Paris where he was still gigging, hanging out and sharing his memories of the 1950s New York City bebop scene with his pals. Freeman, as he was better known, is listed in the Jazz Encyclopedia by Leonard Feather. It is an informative and emotionally engaging read that entertains as it informs. Freeman's authentic voice - jazz slang and all - jumps off every page. Freeman left Ohio in 1950 to head to New York City to make it on trumpet in the bebop scene at the Paradise and Minton's Playhouse. While at Wilberforce University Freeman played trumpet in Wilberforce Collegians Jazz Band. Other HBCUs had jazz bands - Howard University had the Howard Swingmasters, Alabama State University had the Bama State Collegians. The bands competed after intra-HBCU sporting events. Many of the characters that are in the story - Snooky Young, George Russell, Ben Webster, Benny Carter, Freeman Lee, Frank Foster, Smack Henderson - were all alumni of Wilberforce Collegians Jazz Band, the resident jazz band at Wilberforce University. from 1926 until the late 1940s. B. The Interview with his sister Professor Jane Lee Ball The middle section of the book contains a verbatim interview with his sister about the jazz scene, New York City, jazzmen Thelonious Monk, Charley Parker and Elmo Hope whom he could call friends, encounters between jazzmen and law enforcement and amusing anecdotes from the jazz scene. C. Vintage Photographs of Campus Life at Wilberforce University As Wilberforce University is a pre-Emancipation Proclamation institution, the third section of the book contains beautiful, rare vintage photographs of life on campus during the early years from 1895 to 1965

Introduction to Teaching: Helping Students Learn provides students and instructors with the tools with which they can achieve the many goals of today's Introduction to Education course or its equivalent. The book introduces prospective teachers to the dynamic world of teaching and learning and to the realities of the classroom experience by providing engaging student-focused activities, rich real-life examples, and thoughtful reflective exercises that will encourage students to think critically and to develop their own ideas and personal philosophy of education. This active learning approach enables prospective teachers to develop both a knowledge core about education and the critical tools they will need to meet the challenges they will face as educators in today's fast-paced, highly connected society. By exposing students to the realities of teaching, the book will help students decide if teaching is the right career for them. This text is built around two themes that are central to an exploration of the professional education field: student learning and diverse voices. As students consider a teaching career, it is important that they not lose sight of what is the most fundamental goal of education—to help students learn. The text will encourage students to examine each aspect of education as it relates to student learning. Additionally, as students explore the possibilities in being a teacher, they will begin to develop their own philosophy of education. This text will provide the prospective teacher with opportunities to explore multiple perspectives on a variety of issues of importance to today's teachers, and encourage the reader to develop his or her own personal voice as an educator and to make that voice heard in the educational community.
