बालू सिंह के सर पर तीन लोगों के खून का इल्जाम लगा था और वह जेल की सलाखों में कैद था। यह तीन लोग शहर शिवगढ़ के डॉन अल्लाउद्दीन खिलजी के आदमी थे। अल्लाउद्दीन खिलजी को जब मालूम हुआ तो उसनें बालू सिंह के पुरे परिवार को ही खत्म कर डाला। बालू सिंह अपने परिवार के लोगों की चिता के सामने प्रतिज्ञा करता है कि वह अल्लाउद्दीन खिलजी को मार डालेगा। बालू सिंह जैसे साधारण व्यक्ति द्वारा अल्लाउद्दीन को मारने की यह प्रतिज्ञा लोगों के लिए हास्यास्पद थी क्योंकि वास्तव में यह सम्भव नहीं था। बालू सिंह को फाँसी की सजा होना तय ही थी। कैसे बालू सिंह जेल से निकल पाता है? कहानी में एक वक़्त ऐसा आता है जब वह हार कर, थक चुका होता है। अल्लाउद्दीन को मारना तो दूर रहा वह खुद भी जीना नहीं चाहता और इसी बीच उसकी मुलाक़ात प्रेमा सहाय से होती है। प्रेमा सहाय जिसकी अपनी ही एक दर्द भरी कहानी है। प्रेमा सहाय की कहानी सुन बालू सिंह का हौसला बढ़ता है। उसे अहसास होता है कि उसका दुख प्रेमा सहाय के दुख का आधा भी नहीं है लेकिन फिर भी प्रेमा सहाय जीवन से संघर्ष करने को तत्पर है। वह प्रेमा सहाय के साथ हुए अन्याय के खिलाफ खड़ा हो उसे न्याय दिलाने का प्रयत्न करता है। और इसी बीच दोनों के मन में एक दूसरे लिए प्रेम उपजता है लेकिन बालू सिंह इसे नज़र अंदाज कर मुंबई ताकत हासिल करने के उद्देश्य से चल देता है। क्या वह लौट पाया? और अल्लाउद्दीन को मार पाने में सफल हो सका? और क्या फिर प्रेमा सहाय से जाकर अपने प्रेम का इजहार कर पाया या प्रेमा और बालू सिंह की प्रेम कहानी भी अधूरी ही रह गई अन्य प्रेम कहानियों की तरह
