Labour relations in the public elementary and secondary school system is a vital area of Canadian public policy with important direct and indirect effects on society. However, at many times and in many jurisdictions, teacher bargaining has been regarded as profoundly unsuccessful. Taking an inter-provincial comparative approach, Dynamic Negotiations identifies potential avenues of reform. Academic and legal experts describe and analyse the history, current structure, and functioning of bargaining in public elementary and secondary schools in six key jurisdictions - Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland - representing a spectrum of approaches. This is a vital area of public policy that is much discussed but not well enough understood. The volume is a valuable resource for policy-makers, academics, and practitioners in education and labour relations. Contributors: Mustapha Bettache (Laval University), Travor C. Economic Transitions with Chinese Characteristics: Social Change During Thirty Years of Reform explores a broad set of issues from an economic perspective. It addresses issues ranging from land tenure and housing to migration, labor markets, healthcare, demographics, and more. After 30 years of incredibly rapid economic growth, standards of living in China have increased appreciably and many families have been raised from poverty. New concerns, such as economic inequality and environmental degradation, are, however, arising. Economic issues related to China's reforms are explored in an accessible manner by a wide array of Chinese and international scholars who use this anniversary to take stock of, and provide insight into, the remarkable transitions underway.

Deng Xiaoping formalized a Chinese national policy of "Reform and Opening" in a December 1978 speech before a plenary of the Chinese Communist Party's Central Committee. The long-term economic results of this new direction continue to be astonishing and the subsequent 30 years have had a singular impact on China and the world. Economic Transitions with Chinese Characteristics: Thirty Years of Reform and Opening Up puts the current economic situation into a broad context and looks at a number of issues related to economic growth, finance, and technological change.
