उत्तरप्रदेश के मऊ ज़िले के कद्दावर नेता और तत्कालीन केंद्रीय मंत्री कल्पनाथ राय को भी उस कार्यक्रम में आमंत्रित किया गया था। कार्यक्रम से पहले कल्पनाथ राय पहलवान जी के यहाँ नाश्ता करने पहुँच जाते हैं। सुबह के नौ बज रहे थे। रेलवे कॉलोनी डेल्हा में सायरन की आवाज़ के साथ गाड़ियों के क़ाफ़िले को देखकर लोग हैरत में थे। एमपी-एमएलए, मिनिस्टर तो अक्सर पहलवान जी के यहाँ आया करते थे लेकिन केंद्रीय मंत्री का आगमन पहली बार हो रहा था। मंत्री जी की कार एक घर के सामने आकर रुक जाती है। पहलवान जी कल्पनाथ राय को रिसीव कर घर के अंदर ले जाते हैं। नाश्ते के साथ सामाजिक-राजनीतिक बातें होती है। चर्चा का बाज़ार गर्म हो जाता है। विधायक-सांसद को भी यह बात पच नहीं रही थी। खुद कल्पनाथ राय के पीए ने उनसे सवाल कर दिया था - "सर, एक बात पूछें, आप मंत्री, विधायक, सांसद के घर न जाकर एक टीटीई के घर नाश्ता करने क्यों गए ?" केंद्रीय मंत्री राय ने कहा- "सवाल तो तुम्हारा जायज़ है लेकिन तुम वर्तमान की हैसियत देखते हो और मैं भविष्य की सियासत पर नज़र रखता हूँ। रविंद्र कुमार कोई साधारण टीटीई नहीं है बल्कि एशियार्ड गोल्डमेडलिस्ट मशहूर पहलवान है और लोगों का चहेता भी। हो सकता है पार्टी इसपर अगला दाँव खेल जाए।" कार्यक्रम शुरू होनेवाला था। रामाश्रय बाबू और राम सिन्हा भी पहुँचे हुए थे। सबकी नज़रें पहलवान जी को खोज रही थी। वे मंच से थोड़ी दूर पर बैठे थे। रामाश्रय बाबू ने इशारा कर उन्हें अपने पास बुलाया। वे पहलवान के कंधे पर हाथ रखकर मंच तक पहुँचे थे। यह सब देखकर राम सिन्हा को अच्छा नहीं लग रहा था। भरी सभा में रामाश्रय बाबू ने पहलवान का परिचय कराते हुए कहा- "पहलवान अब किसी एक आदमी का नहीं बल्कि पूरे समाज का है।"
