August Strindbergs diktcykel Sömngångarnätter på vakna dagar utkom första gången 1884. Ursprungligen var tanken att en dikt med titeln Sömngångar-nätter skulle ingå i Dikter på vers och prosa (1883) men idén växte till en hel svit, indelad i fyra "nätter". I en utgåva från år 1900 lade Strindberg till en avslutande, femte del, "Uppvaknandet". Den inledande dikten om ett hjärta som hänger på en krok i ett slakteri vid avenue de Neuilly har återgivits i otaliga antologier; de fem längre dikterna är betydligt mindre lästa. Utgåvan i N/L:s poesibibliotek bygger på versionen från år 1900.Sömngångarnätter på vakna dagar är djupt försänkt i sin tid [ . . . ] Strindberg själv underströk samtidskopplingen, han kallade i ett brev sviten för ett konjunkturstycke , och som sådant måste publicering ske snarast så att sviten kunde göra verkan på tiden.
