Errol Douse went to prison for slashing up Shorty Paul in a fight over a woman. In prison he met a young Don, Bobby Deacon. He is there for trying to extort two Chinese businessmen. On leaving prison Bobby Deacon is allowed space to operate in by Shadow, the old Don controlling Downtown, Kingston. He soon falls out with Coltrane, another Don, who Shadow had allowed to operate in the area and was now bigger than him. Coltrane gave him an ultimatum, pay him a fee to operate or move out. Bobby Deacon refused and hired fighters to defend his base. Shadow agreed to help him fight off any attack by Coltrane. When Coltrane attacked, Bobby Deacon has to flee, leaving several of his fighters dead as Shadow pulled out his forces at the last moment leaving him exposed on several fronts. He has to seek refuge in safe houses in the rural areas. Douse in the meantime is out of prison and operating a taxi. Hit man, Digger Lobban and Shorty Paul are hired by Coltrane to find and destroy Bobby Deacon. The heat is turned up on Douse when it is realized that he is a link to Bobby Deacon. He gave up his taxi work and went and joined the Bobby Deacon forces. Bobby Deacon is in the meantime building up his forces for a push on Coltrane and to take his revenge on Shadow for his treachery.
