Parmenides delves into a profound philosophical discussion centered around Socrates' challenge to the revered Parmenides and Zeno. Employing the reductio ad absurdum method, Zeno argues against the pluralist view that things can be both like and unlike, which Socrates counters by introducing the concept of Forms, distinct from sensibles. This sets the stage for Parmenides to scrutinize Socrates' Theory of Forms through a series of intricate arguments. The latter part of the dialogue shifts to Parmenides guiding a young Aristoteles through a challenging exercise in dialectic, further exploring themes of unity, plurality, and the nature of existence.Parmenides is significant for its deep exploration of the Theory of Forms, where Parmenides critiques Socrates' ideas through a series of intricate arguments, pushing the boundaries of philosophical thought on the nature of reality, unity, and plurality. This work's historical importance lies in its profound influence on subsequent philosophical discourse, highlighting complex themes and inspiring extensive scholarly debate on metaphysics and epistemology. This case laminate collector's edition includes a Victorian inspired dust-jacket.

Parmenides is widely considered to be one of the more, if not the most, challenging and enigmatic of Plato's dialogues. The work purports to be an account of a meeting between the two great philosophers of the Eleatic school, Parmenides and Zeno of Elea, and a young Socrates. The occasion of the meeting was the reading by Zeno of his treatise defending Parmenidean monism against those partisans of plurality who asserted that Parmenides' supposition that there is a one gives rise to intolerable absurdities and contradictions.

Gorgias is a Socratic dialogue written by Plato around 380 BC. The dialogue depicts a conversation between Socrates and a small group of sophists (and other guests) at a dinner gathering. Socrates debates with the sophist seeking the true definition of rhetoric, attempting to pinpoint the essence of rhetoric and unveil the flaws of the sophistic oratory popular in Athens at the time. The art of persuasion was widely considered necessary for political and legal advantage in classical Athens, and rhetoricians promoted themselves as teachers of this fundamental skill. Some, like Gorgias, were foreigners attracted to Athens because of its reputation for intellectual and cultural sophistication. Socrates suggests that he is one of the few Athenians to practice true politics (521d). Gorgias is one of Plato's most widely read dialogues. Philosophers read it for its coverage of central moral issues; others enjoy its vividness, clarity and occasional bitter humour.
The Apology of Socrates written by Plato, is a Socratic dialogue of the speech of legal self-defence which Socrates spoke at his trial for impiety and corruption in 399 BC. Among the primary sources about the trial and death of the philosopher Socrates (469-399 BC), the Apology of Socrates is the dialogue that depicts the trial, and is one of four Socratic dialogues, along with Euthyphro, Phaedo, and Crito, through which Plato details the final days of the philosopher Socrates.
The Republic is a Socratic dialogue, written by Plato around 380 BC, concerning justice, the order and character of the just city-state, and the just man. It is Plato's best-known work, and has proven to be one of the world's most influential works of philosophy and political theory, both intellectually and historically. In the book's dialogue, Socrates discusses with various Athenians and foreigners about the meaning of justice and whether the just man is happier than the unjust man. They consider the natures of existing regimes and then propose a series of different, hypothetical cities in comparison, culminating in Kallipolis, a hypothetical city-state ruled by a philosopher king. They also discuss the theory of forms, the immortality of the soul, and the role of the philosopher and of poetry in society.
