Software ist heute trotz aller modernen Vorgehensweisen und Tools immer noch eine komplizierte Sache. Dass die Anforderungen st ndig steigen vergr ert das Problem noch. Um die heutigen gigantischen Softwarelandschaften in den Griff zu bekommen, kommt man nicht umhin von der einzelnen Codezeile zu abstrahieren. Die Unified Modeling Language ist eine graphische Sprache die genau diese Abstraktionsmittel anbietet. Einundzwanzig Jahre nach ihrer Einf hrung hat sie sich vielfach bew hrt. "Analyse und Design" begleitet die UML seit vielen Jahren und enth lt eine gut lesbare und dennoch genaue und umfassende Darstellung der Sprache von einem Mitglied des Standardisierungsgremiums. Mit Sprachkenntnissen allein hat jedoch noch niemand einen Bestseller geschrieben. Daher werden bew hrte Praktiken anhand eines umfangreichen Praxisbeispiels vorgestellt.
