Land Thieves

pokkari
Bill Watkins, a traveling, comedic poet and recovering alcoholic, recently unearthed three family memoirs in an unlikely place. Penned in the heart of American sin, the memoirs blend fact with fiction to create a new truth in an effort to understand what white conquerors did to create the "greatest democracy on Earth." In a unique collection of stories and poems, Watkins begins by sharing a glimpse into the life of explorer and part-time stage actor, Robert Watkyns of Talgarth, Wales, who endured many trials and tribulations during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Next, he transports readers into the lives of nineteenth century slave owner and sometimes reluctant soldier, Bo Watkins, from Horse Pasture, Virginia (Wingandacoa to the natives), and finally to Bob Watts of Illinois, a CIA man harboring many secrets during a tumultuous time in a more modern America. Land Thieves blends the dark history surrounding the United States with the lives of three men doing their best to face obstacles and overcome challenges.

A collection of poems Bill wrote in Lost Angeles, abroad in Wales, England then celebrating an extended stay in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Did you know that underneath the Spanish "Los Angeles" is a native name, the land called "Otsungna" before--or "Place of the Roses...?" Bill believes in studying and remembering the native, pre-Colombian names, pre-conquest, pre-land theft. While Bill prepares to sell a major historical fiction piece related to white people stealing Native American land, his latest poetry is now available in this volume. This is Bill's 44th self-published offering, complete with introduction, poem descriptions, illustrations and a thought-provoking, heartfelt concluding pledge that takes a shot at modern American nationalism, exceptionalism and... Racism.

"I was walking down the path one day, Minding my business like a cat his fray, When all of a sudden through the trees Murmuring louder and louder a blur with fleas; The Talgarth Panther to me seemed to appear..." ***So begins this tale of history, allegory and magic. We left our land years ago in search of adventure, fame, and riches. We, the Celtic men, Welsh and English fighters, Bill Watkins himself hailing from Vikings. The ethic of "blooming where you are planted" was lost to the lie of the mythical Talgarth Panther, who wanders out to tempt about a grass being greener in the "New World."

"When I feel happy, I like to spread it around, the love, the joy, the upside down frown. I like to call out loud, act like an animal-after all I am one, why not be a clown? God is for some, not for others; some prefer to celebrate Nature, Mothers and Fathers, Words make things clear at times, others it's all a muddle; God helps me plan like a football huddle."

Samuel asked God for a king to be like other nations thousands of years ago. Maybe it was a mistake to put human leaders over humans; perhaps we are better off supplicating to higher powers Mistakes happen, the world keeps spinning, and Bill Watkins--like any other writer--tries to capture it in bits...The bits he likes best are poetry and humor, the pieces best loved by him and his readers yielding Peace of Mind--the ultimate feeling on Earth. Let go for a moment the complaints and problems, dive into all the complaints and problems, then let go again in the life pulse that is being alive on Earth today. If you can't beat them, forgive them--a thought pervading this, Bill's newest collection of essays, poems and inspiration

"How to make today great? How to make it special, maketoday one to remember? I think more and more about being mad, and think it comes from being scared I will lose something, like my life or my freedom. But getting back at people doesn't work, so from now on when I get mad, I plan to breathe deep breaths if possible, walk away to let the feeling settle. If I wait long enough, I'll get a good idea with my brain about what to do about my feeling, instead of taking an action that makes the problem worse.

"Caring is a great quality to have, and if you Care about the Earth you can be my friend." ***So begins another lesson from Bill "Coach Waffle" Watkins. His target: tomorrow's leaders What good are our grades and achievement, if we litter the Earth while achieving them? We cannot be truly successful people on this planet without taking good care of it. And without "success," we cannot feel Peace of Mind--something the author has found in a cleaner, wiser second life.

"This is not an ordinary kids' book because I'm going to lay it out true, not written for a little pig, but for a very important little person called You." So goes this epic slap to status quo story telling, not because the author likes to slap-but because the Status Quo almost killed him. This is one middle-aged author's unedited poetic message to children, hoping to reach them and help them with the Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth Alcoholism 101 for kids, inspiring law education and curiosity, daily planning and more It's the book Bill Watkins wish he'd read when 5, 6, 7 or 8 years old; instead of regretting a loss, Bill pays forward what he failed to get until almost too late Poetry and full-color images, food for thought and plans to live today well... and Today? It's all we've got, so here's to mastering it
