Bill Watkins, a traveling, comedic poet and recovering alcoholic, recently unearthed three family memoirs in an unlikely place. Penned in the heart of American sin, the memoirs blend fact with fiction to create a new truth in an effort to understand what white conquerors did to create the "greatest democracy on Earth." A collection of poems Bill wrote in Lost Angeles, abroad in Wales, England then celebrating an extended stay in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Did you know that underneath the Spanish "Los Angeles" is a native name, the land called "Otsungna" before--or "Place of the Roses...?" Bill believes in studying and remembering the native, pre-Colombian names, pre-conquest, pre-land theft. While Bill prepares to sell a major historical fiction piece related to white people stealing Native American land, his latest poetry is now available in this volume. I think more and more about being mad, and think it comes from being scared I will lose something, like my life or my freedom. But getting back at people doesn't work, so from now on when I get mad, I plan to breathe deep breaths if possible, walk away to let the feeling settle. If I wait long enough, I'll get a good idea with my brain about what to do about my feeling, instead of taking an action that makes the problem worse.
