Nearing Home: Life, Faith, and Finishing Well
Scripture is filled with examples of men and women whom God used late in life, often with great impact--Noah, Abraham, Moses, Elizabeth, and Anna, to name a few. They were ordinary men and women who discovered that the latter years of life can be some of the most rewarding and fulfilling. "For them, growing older wasn't something to be denied or dreaded;" says Billy Graham, "it was to be embraced as part of God's plan for their lives." Billy Graham's life and ministry have been dedicated to the here and now but always with a happy-ever-after in view. In this moving narrative he reflects on his life and contemplates what God still has in store for him. He also shares how he has learned to deal with grief, uncertainty, and loss by focusing on the promises found in the Bible. "Explore with me not only the realities of life as we grow older but also the hope and fulfillment and even joy that can be ours once we learn to look at these years from God's point of view and discover His strength to sustain us every day." --Billy Graham

* New York Times best seller!* Billy Graham offers hope and biblical wisdom for today's challenging problems. The daily news is jammed with alarming headlines of conflict in the Middle East, economic crisis, and terrorist threats around the world. In Storm Warning, Billy Graham — the best-known evangelist of our time — examines today’s most challenging problems and adds his voice and perspective to what the Bible says about the storms we are facing... and the storms yet to come.Since its original publication, Graham has added nearly two decades to his ministry and has lived through several more storms. This completely revised and updated book highlights Graham's experiences, insights, and renewed sense of urgency as he examines the book of Revelation in light of current events—and sees prophetic events become reality. “Now in the twenty-first century, we see accelerated growth of unrestrained greed and corruption on Wall Street, financial mismanagement in the halls of government, and fraud and perversion at the highest levels of both church and state. While keeping an eye on the showdown that many observers feel may be brewing even now in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America, many people sense the possibility of an even greater unraveling in the world. Can we find any hope in the current world situation? Will there be lasting peace? How should we live in the face of our nation’s new challenges and the magnitude of the world’s crises? These are important—even vital—questions, and I invite you to come with me as we discover the answers God has given us.” —Billy Graham

What's Your Response to Christmas? The true enjoyment of Christmas is tied to our response to the Christ-child born in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago. When we read the Christmas story from the Bible, there are at least three ways that we can respond to Him. Preoccupation? The innkeeper gave one response when Mary and Joseph wanted to find a safe place where the baby could be born. The innkeeper wasn't hostile, he wasn't opposed to them, but his inn was crowded. His hands were full; his mind was preoccupied. This is the answer that millions of people are giving today. Like the Bethlehem innkeeper, they can't find room for Christ. Other crowding interests already take up all the accommodations in their hearts. Their response is not atheism. It isn't defiance. It's preoccupation and the feeling of being able to get on reasonably well without Christ in their lives. Hostility? King Herod gave another response. When the wise men arrived in Jerusalem looking for "the King of the Jews," Herod appeared to be interested. But afterwards his true response was hostility. "Destroy him " Herod raged, "Let him die while he is still in his cradle." In his jealous frenzy, he gave the order to kill every male child in Bethlehem from birth to two (Matthew 2:16), just to make sure the newborn was destroyed That hostile response grew and swelled until one day it became a mad mob's terrifying roar toward Jesus the man: "Let him be crucified Let him be crucified " (Matthew 27:22-26). In many parts of the world, this cry is still being shouted. The world objects to Christ, the unique Son of God, and the Messiah. If he would remain a gentle and mild Jesus, that would be all right. There is no danger there. Or if he were only a mystical dreamer, or if we could put him in a stained-glass window and he would never come down to trouble us...then he would be all right. But a reigning Christ, a life-changing Christ? That is unacceptable to millions of people. Such a Christ is a menace to their way of life. It strikes at the roots of their independence from God. Commitment? But another response was totally different. It came from an old priest in the temple. When the baby Jesus was brought in to be dedicated to God, Simeon took the child in his arms and said to God, "Now you are letting your servant depart in peace...for my eyes have seen your salvation" (Luke 2:29-30). Simeon's answer was the response of commitment. He understood God's intentions in sending his only Son to earth. To Simeon, that meant he couldn't be complacent, too preoccupied to act on the truth before him. Hostility was the farthest thing from his thoughts. Instead he embraced God's plan to provide salvation through his Son's sacrificial death for us. Have you irrevocably committed yourself to God's way of salvation as set out in the Bible? "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven...by which we must be saved...everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins" (Acts 4:12, 10:43). His life-saving mission was complete when he rose from the dead (Acts 26:23). Many other ways to God are proposed. But Jesus said, "I am the way...no one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Are you committed to placing your trust entirely in Christ to receive God's forgiveness and eternal life in heaven when this life is over? This is the response I hope you will make this Christmas to God's greatest gift to all mankind

DON'T BE LEFT BEHIND Jesus is coming back God's Book, the Bible, promises that Jesus will return to take His faithful followers to live with Him in His glorious presence forever (John 14:3). Everyone else will be left behind to face the most difficult times mankind has known. When will that happen? The Bible made clear predictions about the times leading up to Christ's coming for his own. It says that in those days people will be lovers of pleasure instead of God, truce breakers, blasphemers, unthankful. heartless, without self-control (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Clearly the evidence of those predictions being fulfilled is all around us. The news is filled with reports of greed, murders, robberies, immorality as well as a worldwide convulsion of violence and terrorism. All the signs seem to indicate that something will happen soon. After Jesus comes for his own "there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations" (Luke 21:25-26). Everything will be in upheaval, and there will be earthquakes, wars, violence, and people betraying one another. It all leads up to the ultimate rebellion against God--Armageddon. Some things that won't changeDespite the coming chaos on earth, some things will remain the same. What are they? The nature of God never changes. He is unchanging in His holiness and His righteousness. God said, "I am the Lord God], I change not" (Malachi 3:6). Don't let the nightly news frighten you. God knows what's going on down here and he will step in when the limit has been reached. Only he knows what that limit is. God's judgment is coming; that hasn't changed. The Bible says that the Lord will one day judge all the nations of the world. But also God is unchanging in His love. He loves you and he has a plan for your life. Jesus said, "I have come that they who believe in me] might have life and they might have it abundantly" (John 10:10). Something else that hasn't changed is the Word of God, the Bible. "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, but the Word of our God shall stand forever" (Isaiah 40:8). What God says is unchanging. Human nature doesn't change. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9). We're all sinners--sinners by birth and by practice. We cannot be reconciled to God and go to heaven unless our sins are forgiven by God. That's why Christ came to earth the first time 2000 years ago to die on a cross. And the promise of His return to earth to rule the nations hasn't changed. Christ said before He left, "When the Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory" (Matthew 25:31-32). Something that will changeSince Jesus made that promise long ago, people have always asked, "Where is the promise of His coming?" (2 Peter 3:4). Has something gone wrong? No, everything is going according to God's timetable. God will come to bring peace and justice to earth, but until then he is giving people time to change their minds about who he is and what he has done for them. "The Lord...is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). Do you doubt that Jesus will ever return to earth to set things right? Are you living like you'll never face God as your judge? Then you're in danger of being left behind The Bible says there's only one way not to be left behind...- Admit that you're a sinner in need of God's forgiveness. We "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).- Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross, came back to life from the grave, and is your only way to heaven. "God shows] his love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).- Turn from trusting in anything or anyone else for eternal life and trust only in Christ. "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).- Accept Jesus' offer to forgive your sins and become your Savior. In Christ we have "the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:14). If that's your heart's true desire, you can tell Jesus in words like these: Dear Jesus, I agree with you that I'm a sinner in need of your salvation. I also believe that you died in my place, taking the punishment I deserved for my sins. I accept your offer of forgiveness and eternal life. I now receive you as my Savior. Help me to live from now on to please you. I look forward to meeting you in person If Jesus were to come today to take those who believe in him to heaven, would you be included? I hope you'll accept God's offer of salvation and make your future secure. Don't be left behind

Happiness. It's what we all long for, what all human beings seek in our jobs, our relationships, our activities. We try so hard to be happy, and all too often we end up empty and unsatisfied. Why Because, says Billy Graham in this classic work, we are looking for happiness in all the wrong places. We haven't learned the secret Jesus taught in the Beatitudes – that true, lasting happiness simply isn't to be found by seeking it directly. Happiness is a by-product, a bonus that comes when we seek what is really important. And the things that will bring us the satisfaction we long for are not necessarily what the world considers meaningful.Jesus did not have to have an outward stimulus to make Him happy, Billy Graham points out. "He had learned a secret that allowed Him to live above the circumstances of life and fear of the future. He moved with calmness, certainty, and serenity through the most trying circumstances – even death! What was His secret He gave it to us in the Beautitudes."Presented with Billy Graham's characteristic vigor and simplicity in this landmark book, it is a secret that can transform your life.

Ruth Graham - daughter of beloved evangelist Billy Graham - offers a guide for those who are hurting or those who love them. She illustrates through personal stories and Scripture how nothing can keep you from experiencing the fullness of God's grace. Run with Ruth to the arms of the God you can trust, the Father God who embraces, sustains, and redeems your brokenness.Ruth Graham has discovered through bitter personal experience that God does his great work in the ruins of our lives. As Ruth's life descended through divorce, depression, and shame; as she bore heartrending parental struggles; and as she faltered trying to make wise choices in the wake of bad ones, she discovered the unending embrace of a faithful, forgiving, and grace-filled God.This book surpasses the testimony of her fascinating story as she brings sharp new insight from the Word of God for all who fear their actions may be beyond forgiveness or their broken circumstances may keep them from being used by God ever again. Through the words of Jeremiah - the weeping prophet - Ruth reveals the God who makes wasted places come to life. You'll explore the parable of the Prodigal Son as never before as Ruth discloses her own likeness to each character:The indignant older brother, struggling to understand God’s grace toward her husband's infidelityThe prodigal, wading through the deep shame and painful circumstances of her own actionsThe father, running to embrace her children in the midst of bulimia, drug abuse, and unplanned pregnancyRuth includes practical steps in every chapter anyone can take to offer care, support, and hope to the broken people they encounter in their lives and in the pews beside them every Sunday.
