In Some Days Are Murder, Harry, former literary agent turned private investigator, comes out of retirement to solve the murder of a former client. Now, six months later, a larger-than-life movie producer has asked Harry to look into a blackmail attempt: a young man the producer had a dalliance with was apparently not only young, but underage, and the underage young man is now threatening to go public if the producer doesn't pay him a large sum of money. Of course, all Harry wants is to be retired, go into the office and trade quips with his long-time secretary, Bernice, read Variety and The Hollywood Reporter while lunching at the Hamburger Hamlet, and listen to his beloved opera recordings. But the flamboyant producer, who is on the verge of making a film that has all the makings of a blockbuster, won't leave Harry alone until he agrees to look into the underage boy's past. Of course, someone turns up dead and Harry, in a race against the clock, must deduce who the guilty party is from a colorful array of suspects. Set in Los Angeles during the Christmas season of 1975, the territory is a new one for Harry, from West Hollywood's The French Market Place to the Studio One Backlot. And somewhere in there lurks a murderer.

Bruce Kimmel has had a long and varied career as an actor, director, writer, and Grammy-nominated record producer. But whenever people have heard one of his songs, the invariable response is, "I had no idea you wrote songs." And so, for his twentieth book and third book of non-fiction, Kimmel presents a book of his lyrics, lyrics written over five and- a-half decades. Kimmel began writing music and lyrics when he was fifteen. Since then, has written many musicals, has written songs for cable TV and films, including his 1970s cult movie musical smash, The First Nudie Musical, and is still the only person to have ever had a backer's audition for a show on national television, specifically his first original musical, Start at the Top, on The Merv Griffin Show. This book's title, Simply, is the title of his MAC Award-winning song. Many of his songs have been recorded, many of his shows have cast albums, and this book is filled with lyrics that are funny, touching, and clever. They are lyrics that tell stories, and they are lyrics that are filled with craft and style. But it's not only the lyrics, it's the stories behind the lyrics - how the songs were shaped, details about the shows and films, and explanations of how and why he writes in the way he does. Culled from his shows, films, TV shows, and standalone songs, these lyrics are indeed a lifetime of lyrics and a lifetime in lyrics.

She's back For her seventeenth birthday, crack high school journalist/sleuth Adriana Hofstetter is taken to the Magic Castle, a mansion of magic, where she, her BFF Billy, and her mom, Margaret, delight in the feats of prestidigitation, from amazing card tricks to solid rings that magically connect and disconnect seemingly at will, to birds that appear out of nowhere. It's a world that's baffling and bewildering and which people of all ages flock to be fooled and confounded by mysterious illusions. Adriana thinks it would make a great story for her high school newspaper, but the story takes a different turn when one of the magicians turn up dead. She's convinced all is not what it seems and, being the dogged and hardheaded person she is, she becomes determined to find out everything she can in this world of smoke and mirrors. Along the way, she has some adventures with her mother and Billy, and she visits Detectives Ramirez and Coyne as well as her elderly friend, producer Patrick Bronstein. And thanks to Billy, Adriana becomes an occasional blogger, letting the blogosphere know of her exploits. But who is it that begins leaving threatening comments and warnings on her blog? Like the other books in the Adriana Hofstetter series, Murder at the Magic Castle is a fun, suspenseful, and sometimes dangerous ride with a young woman who will stop at nothing to get to the truth.
