This Pure Gold Classics edition of The Treasury of David, by Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892), is an expanded 10-volume set, published by Bridge Logos, intentionally divided into the Five Books of the Psalms delineated in the Holy Bible (KJV). The Treasury of David: Volume Four (1865-1885) is an exposition of Psalms 42-57 and includes additional choice content from Spurgeon's Autobiography, "Through Much Tribulation." Also included is an introduction by editor, Gene Fedele. This Fourth volume is the first of two volumes on Book Two (of Five) of the Psalms, comprised of Psalms 42-72. Each Psalm is expounded, verse by verse, by the "Prince of Preachers" and includes precious biblical insights and applications on the Scripture texts hundreds of eminent Christians throughout history--such as Richard Baxter, Athanasius, John Bunyan, Bernard of Clairvaux, John Gill, David Dickson, Thomas Goodwin, Matthew Henry, Martin Luther, John Flavel, Robert Murray M'Cheyne, George Rogers, Matthew Poole, John Trapp, Richard Sibbs, and many more. As Spurgeon reflects on the fifty-first Psalm: "This Psalm is very human. It's cries and sobs are of one born of a woman; but it is freighted with an inspiration all divine, as if the Great Father was putting words into his child's mouth. Such a Psalm may be wept over, absorbed into the soul, and exhaled again in devotion; but commented on--ah Where is he who, having attempted it, can do none other than blush at his defeat?"

A short reading for every day. Spurgeon wrote this selection of readings to encourage believers to enter into the full provision that their relationship to Jesus entitled them to realise, on a daily basis. He explains we have to present the promises of Scripture to God in prayer and faith, anticipating that he will honour what he has said. Each day’s devotion therefore begins with a verse of scripture and is followed by a brief exposition to exhort and encourage believers to continue walking with God. Dated from 1st January to 31st December, and drawing on verses from throughout the Bible, Spurgeon assures readers of the necessity and relevance of God’s word for each and every day.

This collection of C. H. Spurgeon’s travel letters offers a rare insight into a different side of the famed preacher. Of the many telling phrases C. H. Spurgeon gave the world, one speaks to the way he, and his contemporaries, greatly valued letters: what he called “gifts of the pen.” He lived in a golden age of letter–writing, and played his part in making it so. The best letters, he knew, are written with thoughtful reflection, love of the written word, wit, and a vivid sense of place. His travel letters model these gifts; his love of nature, history, culture, and art live—and breathe—in these pages. Rest and recreation, during precious holiday time, let him follow these interests. Such times were meaningful, renewing gifts from God. More than a preacher, he was a man who needed rest and cherished the world God had given him to enjoy. With artistic flair, scenes and experiences from the English countryside and European continent are brough to life with vivid descriptions. Eloquent, and often moving, his “gifts of the pen” shine through Spurgeon’s travel letters. With this insightful new collection, Spurgeon’s letters finally have a well–deserved place f honour in a book of their own. Now, we ourselves may travel with Spurgeon – enjoying the world he knew and experienced through this privileged perspective.
