Finding Treasures in the Psalms: Daily Devotional
Finding Treasures in the Psalms is a devotional guide that takes you on a daily journey through the Book of Psalms. When I first started writing the devotionals in early January, 2020, life was normal and all was well. However, two short months later, COVID-19 had spread throughout the world causing fear, uncertainty, sickness and death. It was at that time I came to realize that David's words were more than just a collection of poems that contained a few inspirational verses. David lived with fear and doubt. He faced uncertainty and the threat of death. Just like us, David didn't know how things would turn out when he was on the run from Saul, his son, Absalom, or fighting the Philistines. Yet, throughout his life, he trusted and wrote about God's faithfulness; and despite his circumstances, made praising God a priority. What are you facing today? Are you living with fear and doubt about your future? Are you hurting from a broken relationship? Take heart, you can find hope and reassurance of God's love in the Psalms. Start each day by reading about God's faithfulness, love, provision, and forgiveness. Allow His Word to encourage you. But more than that, allow His Word to refresh you, and give you reason to praise your heavenly Father. Charles Hall is a first-time author who lives in Wilmington, NC with his wife, Vivian. He was directed by God to write a daily devotional on the Book of Psalms to leave to his children and grandchildren. He currently serves as the Financial Administrator for two churches in the Wilmington area, and as Treasurer of Imagine Ministry, an international ministry serving in Nicaragua.

Language teachers are often afraid to teach pronunciation because they lack essential, basic knowledge or training in phonetics and phonology. To correct this situation, this lively, interactive book links all three in a manner that allows future and current language teachers to translate research findings into classroom approaches. The authors focus on practical, pedagogical, and theoretical aspects of phonetics, phonology, and pronunciation. While many books in the area separate phonetics and phonology into different subject areas with limited practical application, and most treat pronunciation independently, this book entails the interaction of all three. This quick introduction helps readers gain the basic knowledge, goals, and techniques they need to add pronunciation to their teaching. To address the need for language teachers to have access to materials that blend applied linguistics theory and second/foreign language teaching, this book focuses on practical and theoretical aspects of phonetics, phonology, and pronunciation. As language teachers are often asked to teach pronunciation without crucial knowledge or training in phonetics and phonology, this book links all three in a manner that allows future and current language teachers to translate research findings into classroom approaches. While many books in the area separate phonetics and phonology into different subject areas with limited practical application, and most treat pronunciation independently, this book entails the interaction of all three while connecting classroom practice to theory by drawing pedagogical implications from a discussion of applied linguistics research.

This book takes you on a unique journey through American history, taking time to consider the forces that shaped the development of various cities and regions, and arrives at an unexpected conclusion regarding sustainability. From the American Dream to globalization to the digital and information revolutions, we assume that humans have taken control of our collective destinies in spite of potholes in the road such as the Great Recession of 2007-2009. However, these attitudes were formed during a unique 100-year period of human history in which a large but finite supply of fossil fuels was tapped to feed our economic and innovation engine. Today, at the peak of the Oil Age, the horizon looks different. Cities such as Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas are situated where water and other vital ecological services are scarce, and the enormous flows of resources and energy that were needed to create the megalopolises of the 20th century will prove unsustainable. Climate change is a reality, and regional impacts will become increasingly severe. Economies such as Las Vegas, which are dependent on discretionary income and buffeted by climate change, are already suffering the fate of the proverbial canary in the coal mine.Finite resources will mean profound changes for society in general and the energy-intensive lifestyles of the US and Canada in particular. But not all regions are equally vulnerable to these 21st-century megatrends. Are you ready to look beyond “America’s Most Livable Cities” to the critical factors that will determine the sustainability of your municipality and region? Find out where your city or region ranks according to the forces that will impact our lives in the next years and decades.Find out how:·resource availability and ecological services shaped the modern landscape·emerging megatrends will make cities and regions more or less livable in the new century·your city or region ranks on a “sustainability” map of the United States·urban metabolism puts large cities at particular risk·sustainability factors will favor economic solutions at a local, rather than global, level·these principles apply to industrial economies and countries globally. This book should be cited as follows:J. Law is a profession that requires the ability to read critically, write well, synthesize sources from research, and speak concisely and clearly. American Legal English was developed to help non-native speakers improve their ability to understand and communicate in English with their legal counterparts around the world. The text is an introduction to basic legal information and the U.S. legal system that addresses the major areas of law and provides actual cases and statutes so that students can become familiar with legal syntax and legal vocabulary. Each chapter addresses a particular area of the law and has three parts: Discovering Connections is a warm-up activity that focuses on non-legal concepts that lead into a discussion of the law. Legal Listening and Legally Speaking offer the opportunity to practice new vocabulary terms before they are used in context later in the chapter. Legal Thumbnail provides a simplified summary of the law with actual statutory and case materials. In the second edition, the language development activities have been moved to the back of the book and are organized in the categories of writing, reading, oral communication, grammar, and culture. Supplemental listening activities (21 tracks) are available via an audio CD (978-0-472-00325-9) or MP3 download (978-0-472-00360-0) is available for use in conjunction with this textbook. "Maximum Power" is a synthesis of the creative genius of Howard Thomas Odum as seen through his own words and those of his students, many of whom are now applying his ideas to the world in diverse ways. Offering the holistic, system-oriented thinking of Odum, this in-depth volume examines the interrelationship of humans and n"ature by integrating environment, energy, and economics. "Maximum Power traces the development of Odum's ideas with the objective of providing the conceptual and research history that has led to Odum's far-reaching ideas about making social decisions. The volume is organised along the chronological path that Odum himself followed, from ecology to ecological engineering to ecological economics to his controversial synthesis called 'emergy analysis'.
