The Fight For Hill 809 focuses on the days-long battle by the elite Long Range Patrol element of the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles" during the Vietnam War. Often chronicling the action in hour-by-hour detail, the author explores one of the most daring rescue operations that occurred during the Vietnam War. It takes place in the A Shau Valley in April, 1971. In addition to an indepth study of the battle and rescue of cut off and wounded Rangers, the author, a Ranger himself from the unit, provides backstory on the Long Range Patrol and their missions.
