Williams wanted his Arthurian poem to be a universal epic: not just a tale of early-Medieval heroics, but a poem that would use its narrative to portray the human condition, and the world, with the kind of completeness found in Milton's Paradise Lost or Dante's Divine Comedy. Charles Williams is perhaps the least well known of the Inklings, the writers' group based in Oxford which included J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. In making this collection of Williams's major Arthurian poetry we have sought to make available again, after several years out of print, all his previously published verse on the abiding subject that dominated his work and life from the early 1900s to his death in 1945. The earliest work, published here for the first time since its original appearance in 1913, is the 'Pageant Song of Gwent', which shows Williams thinking about the Arthurian legends even this early. This, along with poems from Heroes and Kings (1930) and Three Plays (1931), comprises all of Williams's early published work on the subject, and is followed by his mature work, contained in the two major sequences Taliessin Through Logres (1938) and The Region of the Summer Stars (1944), which form the centre of this collection. The volume includes an introduction by Grevel Lindop (biographer of Charles Williams) and an essay on Williams's work by Arthurian scholar, John Matthews.
The veil between the worlds has been torn, and terrible powers are coming through...A magician has caused a rift in the fabric of the universe, and Platonic ideals are now roaming the English countryside, taking the form of giant animals and generally wrecking havoc on the small town of Smetham. While others flee, a young student name Anthony Durrant realizes that it is up to him to face down the monstrous powers before they destroy the world...The Place of the Lion is one of Charles Williams' most beloved novels. C.S. Lewis called reading it, "...one of the major literary events of my life." Along with Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, Williams was member of the Inklings, an informal group of writers in Oxford, England who changed the world with their mythopoetic vision.
A magician is planning to take over the world. He thinks his enemies are among the living...When Lester Furnival and her friend Evelyn die in a plane crash, they find themselves walking through a ghostly, surreal, twilight London. The scandalous magician Simon Leclerc has sacrificed his own child to gain control over this world-and the next. As Lester and Evelyn discover what has happened to them, they are pulled in different directions-one toward isolation and despair and the other toward a sacrificial self-giving that, to her great surprise, saves even her. All Hallows' Eve is Charles Williams' final novel-poignant, relevant, and chilling. Along with C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Williams formed The Inklings, a society of writers in Oxford, England who changed the world with their mythopoetic vision.
In every moment, we choose between Heaven and Hell...The good people of Battle Hill are getting ready to put on a play by the renowned playwright, Peter Stanhope. As the rehearsals continue and the date of the premier draws closer, many things that are hidden are revealed.Among them is the fact that nearly every choice presents us with both an invitation and a temptation. Pauline Anstruther is invited to face her deepest fear, and to dare to believe that she can offer succor and support to a long-dead relative at the moment of his greatest need. Lawrence Wentworth is tempted to forsake the company of real (and therefore difficult) people and retreat into illusion and isolation. To choose connection and community is to choose Heaven, to reject it is to descend into Hell...Descent into Hell is among the most subtle and profound of Williams' novels. In it, he most fully presents his theology of substituted love.
A battle over the most sacred object in Christendom...In the tiny English village of Fardles, a practitioner of black magic has located the Holy Graal in the sacristy of the local Anglican church. Intent on possessing it so as to amplify his own nefarious powers, he tries to trick its guardian into donating it. When that fails, he resorts to theft. Thus begins a tug-of-war between powers infernal and celestial, between a magician who would use the Sacred as an instrument of his own will, and an Archdeacon who seeks to protect and preserve what is sacramental and holy. Along the way, Williams reveals the tug-of-war within us all-the interplay of desire and Desire, the polarity of possession and sacrifice...and the siginifant gray areas in between. War in Heaven is the first novel Williams published, and also the most comic. It is everything you've come to expect from a Williams novel-suspense, supernatural danger, and a mysticism so real, good, and terrible that nothing can stand against it.

THE SAILCLOTH SHROUD: Stuart Rogers leaves Panama with two shipmates. One of them, Baxter, dies of a heart attack midway back to the States, and is buried at sea. Once they dock, the other man, Keefer, is fished out of the bay three days later after having been pistol-whipped to death. He had been seen flashing a lot of money around the night before. But as far as Rogers knew, Keefer was broke. Now the cops want to know where the money came from. They don't believe that Baxter really died at sea. Neither do the goons who pick up Rogers one night to beat the truth out of him. But if Baxter wasn't who he seemed to be, one thing Rogers knows for sure is that he's definitely dead-but who the hell was he? ALL THE WAY: Marian Forsyth made Harris Chapman the prosperous man he is today. As his private secretary, she advised him on his acquisitions, and turned him into a very wealthy man. She assumed she would become his second wife. But Harris made a foolish mistake: he fell in love with a younger, prettier woman. And now Harris must pay. And to that end, Marian creates a brilliant and detailed plan to steal $175,000 from him. All she needs is someone who sounds enough like Harris that he can become Harris long enough to pull it off. That's where Jerry Forbes comes in-footloose, morally flexible, and completely obsessed with Marian. It's the perfect match.... for the perfect crime.

In January 2019, Felicia Williams's intuition told her something was clearly wrong with her eight-year-old daughter, Kariina. For months, this active little girl experienced severe headaches, spent a lot of time sleeping, and began to lose her balance. The family's world was turned upside down when they learned their daughter had a brain tumor the size of a golf ball at the base of her neck. In A Devoted Family's Journey, Felicia and Charles Williams narrate the account of their experiences with their daughter and her battle with a cancerous brain tumor. They tell about the diagnosis, surgery, treatment with chemotherapy and radiation, the complications, and Kariina's long road to recovery, sharing their fears and challenges. A story of inspiration and education, A Devoted Family's Journey chronicles the Williams' story as they navigate the unknowns of the diagnosis and their daughter's future health. They believe God has a reason for choosing their family for this trial.
Williams gives a contemporary setting to the traditional story of the Search for the Holy Grail. Examining the distinction between magic and religion, War in Heaven is an eerily disturbing book, one that graphically portrays a metaphysical journey filled with marvels and black magic, God and the Devil."The telephone was ringing wildly," begins War in Heaven, "but without result, since there was no-one in the room but the corpse." From this abrupt - and darkly humorous - start, Williams takes us on a 20th-century version of the Grail quest, with an Archdeacon, a Duke, and an editor playing the old Arthurian roles. Throughout, Williams reminds us that these legends were above all about divine, not just human, romance.
