The Professor was the first novel by Charlotte Bront . It was originally written before Jane Eyre and rejected by many publishing houses, but was eventually published posthumously in 1857 by approval of Arthur Bell Nicholls, who accepted the task of reviewing and editing of the novel. The book is the story of a young man, William Crimsworth, and is a first-person narrative from his perspective. It describes his maturation, his loves and his eventual career as a professor at an all-girls school. Charlotte Bront (21 April 1816 - 31 March 1855) was an English novelist and poet, the eldest of the three Bront sisters who survived into adulthood, whose novels are English literature standards.
Villette is a novel by Charlotte Bront , published in 1853. After an unspecified family disaster, protagonist Lucy Snowe travels to the fictional city of Villette to teach at an all-girls school where she is unwillingly pulled into both adventure and romance. The novel is celebrated not so much for its plot as its acute tracing of Lucy's psychology, particularly Bront 's use of Gothic doubling to represent externally what her protagonist is suffering internally. Charlotte Bront (21 April 1816 - 31 March 1855) was an English novelist and poet, the eldest of the three Bront sisters who survived into adulthood, whose novels are English literature standards.

'Holding my gaze, he removed a curtain tie from one of the bedsteads. I was confused when he uttered huskily, "Put your hands out in front of you." I obeyed.'Jane Eyre has lived a sheltered, callous life. Orphaned at a young age and despised by her remaining family, she is shipped off to Lowood School and can only dream of tenderness and affection. Upon accepting a governess position at Thornfield Hall, a world of passion, desire and sex explodes before her naive eyes in the form of the brooding, dashing master of the house: Mr Rochester. After playful attempts to evade Mr Rochester's advances, Jane finds herself succumbing to his savage, brutal lust and losing herself in the intense heat of her yearning. Jane believes that beneath Mr. Rochester's dark, handsome and sometimes brutal exterior there must be a heart, and she is desperate to find love in his hungry caresses. But then, she discovers something in the attic . . . and everything she thought she knew about Rochester is changed for ever.Sex collides with corsets in a burst of erotic ecstasy and dark secrets, and one of literature's finest novels will never be read the same again.
The Penguin English Library Edition of Villette by Charlotte Brontë'That evening more firmly than ever fastened into my soul the conviction that Fate was of stone, and Hope a false idol - blind, bloodless, and of granite core. I felt, too, that the trial God had appointed me was gaining its climax, and must now be turned by my own hands, hot, feeble, trembling as they were'With neither friends nor family, Lucy Snowe sets sail from England to find employment in a girls' boarding school in the small town of Villette. There she struggles to retain her self-possession in the face of unruly pupils, an initially suspicious headmaster and her own complex feelings, first for the school's English doctor and then for the dictatorial professor Paul Emmanuel. Drawing on her own deeply unhappy experiences as a governess in Brussels, Charlotte Brontë's last and most autobiographical novel is a powerfully moving study of isolation and the pain of unrequited love, narrated by a heroine determined to preserve an independent spirit in the face of adverse circumstances. The Penguin English Library - 100 editions of the best fiction in English, from the eighteenth century and the very first novels to the beginning of the First World War.

Everyone is familiar with Charlotte Bront 's passionate, but restrained novel in which the plain, yet spirited governess Jane Eyre falls for the arrogant Mr. Rochester. It's a novel that simmers with sexual tension but never quite reaches the boiling point. Which is to be expected. After all, the original was written in 1847. That was then. This is now. And in JANE EYRE LAID BARE, author Eve Sinclair writes between the lines to chart the smoldering sexual chemistry between the long-suffering governess and her brooding employer. When an eager and curious Jane Eyre arrives at Thornfield Hall her sexual desires are awakened. Who is the enigmatic Rochester and why is she attracted to him? What are the strange, yet captivating noises coming from the attic, and why does the very air she breathes feel heavy with passion? Only one thing is certain. Jane Eyre may have arrived at Thornfield an unfulfilled and tentative woman, but she will leave a very different person... "An intriguing idea for a mashup." - Kirkus Reviews

Jane Eyre is a novel by English writer Charlotte Bronte. Primarily of the romance genre, Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of eponymous Jane Eyre, her growth to adulthood, and her love for Mr. Rochester, the byronic master of Thornfield Hall. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of classism, sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism. Charlotte Bront (21 April 1816 - 31 March 1855) was an English novelist and poet, the eldest of the three Bront sisters who survived into adulthood, whose novels are English literature standards.

HarperCollins is proud to present its incredible range of best-loved, essential classics. ‘The Professor’ is Charlotte Brontë’s first novel, reflecting her own experience of life in Brussels and published after her untimely death. Viewed as a precursor to the narrative style and characterisation she perfected in her later works, such as ‘Jane Eyre’, the novel is Brontë’s portrayal of a love story from a male perspective. Writing from the point of view of orphaned young teacher, William Crimsworth – the sole male protagonist among Brontë’s works – the author allows herself a freedom of action in love and will that reveals her character’s loves, desires and ambitions as he forges a new life on his own terms in Brussels. William finds himself caught between the desire he feels for Zoraide Reuter, the beguiling head of the girls’ school where he teaches, and the gentle love he feels for one of his pupils, Frances Henri. Exploring questions of love, identity, freedom and independence, ‘The Professor’ is an important work in the small opus that is Charlotte Brontë’s significant contribution to English literature.
The Classics Exposed...One of the world's best loved books, Jane Eyre, is retold with scorching passion...Mystery, betrayal, scandal, and a love that transcends time...There was only him...From the moment Jane Eyre sets eyes on her one and true master, Mr. Rochester, her life is irrevocably changed. The tall, dark man is an enigma, complex, deep, compelling, frightening, and tempting beyond compare. This stern, unyielding man brooks no refusal and demands all of what Jane has to offer as he invites her on a journey of the senses that would scandalise society. He demands her abject surrender. In his strong and athletic arms, Jane submits to his darkest desires and discovers hers are every bit as searing, plunging her into a world she never suspected and never wants to escape. The thrilling and beloved novel is perhaps more relevant today than it ever was. Jane Eyre's struggles to live a life of grand passion, compromising nothing, willing to sacrifice everything for what she believes, resonates with the modern woman's struggles to have it all, to be it all, and to love with uncompromising abandon.
The Bront s sisters, Charlotte (1816-55), Emily (1818-48), and Anne (1820-49), achieved literary renown for their novels which were passionate and original. Contained in this volume are the famous (or complete) novels - Wuthering Heights, Agnes Grey, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Jane Eyre.
