We only ever know other people through the lenses of our own perceptions. These perceptions are shaped by our every experience and belief, and they are as unique as our fingerprints. Our perceptions may shift as we grow older and obtain wisdom and experience but they remain ours alone. No other person will ever be able to see the world exactly as we see it, through our lens. Because of our unique perspective, we will never completely know other people. This is even true for the people we love best in the world. This is perhaps especially true for the people we love best in the world. Not only do we see the things we want to sometimes, we see the things we are able to see. We are all amazingly complex. We are a mix of "good" and "bad". Light and dark. We are never all one or the other. In fact, life is balance and one does not exist without the other. Yin and Yang. It makes us interesting. It makes relationships complicated. It is both the curse and the gift of our humanity. It begins with an obituary. Everything we learn about Allison, we learn after the fact. And no one knows her completely.
