A lively contemporary translation of Shakespeare’s sexiest play. In Antony and Cleopatra, Christopher Chen tackles the sweeping epic of love and betrayal at the center of the story of the rulers Antony of Rome and Cleopatra of Egypt. In this contemporary translation of the play, Chen brings the political intrigue and historical storytelling of Shakespeare to modern audiences while preserving the poetic foundation of the play’s language. This translation of Antony and Cleopatra was written as part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Play On! project, which commissioned new translations of thirty-nine Shakespeare plays. These translations present the work of “The Bard” in language accessible to modern audiences while never losing the beauty of Shakespeare’s verse. Enlisting the talents of a diverse group of contemporary playwrights, screenwriters, and dramaturges from diverse backgrounds, this project reenvisions Shakespeare for the twenty-first century. These volumes make these works available for the first time in print—a new First Folio for a new era.

Examining three literary traditions – post-1960 Asian American, Asian Canadian and Black experimental poetry – this book reframes contemporary scholarly accounts of post-war North American comparative racial group formation, demonstrating how such poetry investigates contemporary Black-Asian relations and maps the complex co-constitution of race and capitalism at different spatial scales. Offering extended close readings of contemporary Black, Asian American and Asian Canadian experimental poets such as Myung Mi Kim, Erica Hunt, Larissa Lai and Ed Roberson, this book argues that these writers redefine race as a changing and politically contested form of constraint and possibility powerfully shaped by economic history and capitalist globalization. This study retheorizes some basic terms of analysis of contemporary US poetry and poetics, critical race and ethnic studies, racial capitalism and contemporary theories of comparative and relational racialization.

This book examines the evolution of legal institutions in containing and tackling fraudulent activities plaguing payment systems (‘payment fraud’, e.g. forged cheques, wrongful payment instructions, etc.) in Asia, focusing on laws in Greater China and Singapore. In the past century, the payment system has invited much innovation, changing the modes of payments from exchanging cash and coins to the use of cards, wire transfers and other new types of payment instruments or services (e.g. bitcoins or QR code payments). As the nature of payment services is to move money from one place to another, it naturally attracts fraudsters. Even with advanced computer technology, payment fraud is still rampant in the market, causing billions of dollars in losses globally per annum. Through an examination of payment instruments and associated frauds over time, the book illustrates a shifting trend of legal solutions from criminal sanctions and civil compensation to a gradual focus on regulations of payment intermediaries. This trend reflects the complexity of payment systems and the challenge of protecting them. The book also identifies the underlying actors and institutional characteristics driving the evolution of legal institutions to deal with payment fraud and illustrates how the arrival of new technology may affect the market and thus the evolution of legal institutions. The book will help readers to better understand the interaction between technology, the market and law and help regulators, financial institutions, practitioners and end users, as well as about payment fraud and corresponding legal responses.

Inspired by the writings of Italo Calvino (Invisible CitiesandIf on a Winter's Night a Traveler) The Late Weddingis a fractured portrait of a fractured marriage as told through a series of interconnected fables including an anthropological tour of fantastical tribes and their marital customs. Christopher Chen's winking second-person narrative delivered by a six-person shape-shifting cast deftly guides you on a wild and delightful examination of love and longing. At once an anthropological tour through marriage customs a spy thriller and a sci-fi love story the mind-bendingThe Late Weddingis an inventive and surprising theatrical experience."Wild witty... contemplative and poignant... you gotta see this funny brilliant play." - San Francisco Examiner"A seductive play... a fascinating little gem... a script about the mystery and challenges of love in all its permutations. The play is a provocative one-act composed with a unique theatrical structure... a swirling nebula of magical notions put down in a contemporary world." - DC Metro Theatre Arts"A comic dramatic inquiry into human relationships - between lovers or spouses; between playwright and audience - [The Late Wedding] is another of Chen's slyly metatheatrical blissfully funny whiplash-smart creations... What begins as a look at anthropological research into the marital arrangements and lore of a few odd tribes segues without warning into a political drama cum action thriller." - SF Gate"Bold and brainy... As The Late Wedding dips in and out of such genres as the spy caper and science fiction... it blurs the boundaries between its two strands of Calvino homage so that the genre-sampling meta-theater begins to reflect on the bittersweet realities of marriage." - The Washington Post"[The Late Wedding] is about the vagaries of love and marriage both homo- and heterosexual and the way that we both cherish and distort the past and about the creative process itself... you gotta see this funny brilliant play." - San Francisco Examiner

InThe Headlands Henry is an amateur sleuth and true crime aficionado who sets out to solve the ultimate case: the unsolved murder of his father. Using his memories and the family stories he was told as a child growing up in San Francisco Henry begins an investigation through a labyrinth of secrets and deceptions that leads him to question those closest to him.The Headlandsis a contemporary noir that explores the stories we tell ourselves and the fallibility of the mind.Author's Note: Inspired byVertigoand other San Francisco noir as well as the exquisitely precise tone management of Kazuo Ishiguro's novels the play's primary requirement for its creative team will be to make each scene each moment a highly distinct pocket of atmosphere mood and emotion. There should a cinematic quality to each scene and to the flow of the production as a whole.
Over-the-Counter Derivatives Regulation in Hong Kong and Singapore
In this work, Christopher Chen examines and compares the regulation of over-the-counter derivatives in Hong Kong and Singapore, the two largest international financial centres in Asia Pacific. Chen analyses current or proposed regulations on trade reporting, centralised clearing and mandatory exchange trading mandates regarding OTC derivatives against the backdrop of reforms of international financial regulatory structure after the global financial crisis. The article also relates the reforms in Asia to development in major Western markets such as the US, the UK or the European Union. Apart from technical comparison and dissecting of content of rules from different angles, his work also examines the rationale behind those reforms and policy concerns behind Asian adoption of the regulatory mandates prescribed by G20 as well as potential policy concerns (such as competition and extraterritoriality) in a market that is dominated by Western banks.
