Seismic Performance of Asymmetric Building Structures presents detailed investigations on the effective assessment of structural seismic response under excessive torsional vibrations, demonstrating behavioural aspects from local response perspective to global seismic demands. The work provides comprehensive analytical, computational, experimental investigations, and proposes improved design guidelines that structural engineers can utilize to enhance the seismic design of asymmetric building structures.Combining extensive experimental and numerical data stock for seismic performance assessment with a particular focus on asymmetric building structures, the book includes:• An overview of asymmetric building structures from seismic damage perspective• Local and global performance assessment of asymmetric structures under extreme seismic actions• Post-earthquake damage evaluation from varying frequency trends • Extended numerical applications for experimental response validations• Evaluation of critical regions of asymmetric structure with stress concentration• Statistical distribution of seismic response under varying design parameters• Design guidelines for asymmetric building structures This work's comprehensive evaluations are carried out with modern sensing techniques planned with meticulous attention to cover objectives with a particular focus on asymmetry in reinforced concrete and steel structures. It assesses various aspects of asymmetric building structures that are rarely dealt with in the current literature. It gathers fruitful information from various building design codes and explains their limitations in addressing damage-related challenges, which is not only useful for practicing engineers but also for academics. The book will be invaluable for experts, researchers, students and practitioners from relevant areas, as well as for emergency preparedness managers.

This book provides the fundamental approaches to designing and using type-3 fuzzy systems in real-world applications. Basic Matlab codes are provided to use type-3 fuzzy systems in a straightforward scheme. The main differences between type-3 fuzzy systems and other types are analyzed and compared. The effectiveness of type-3 fuzzy systems is analyzed and studied in various applications, such as robotics, intelligent control systems, and data science.
Structural Health Monitoring Using Emerging Signal Processing Approaches with Artificial Intelligence Algorithms
Structural health monitoring is a powerful tool across civil, mechanical, automotive, and aerospace engineering, allowing the assessment and measurement of physical parameters in real time. Processing changes in the vibration signals of a dynamic system can detect, locate, and quantify any damage existing in the system. This book presents a comprehensive state-of-the-art review of the applications in time, frequency, and time-frequency domains of signal-processing techniques for damage perception, localization, and quantification in various structural systems.Experimental investigations are illustrated, including the development of a set of damage indices based on the signal features extracted through various signal-processing techniques to evaluate sensitivity in damage identification. Chapters summarize the application of the Hilbert–Huang transform based on three decomposition methods such as empirical mode decomposition, ensemble empirical mode decomposition, and complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise. Also, the chapters assess the performance and sensitivity of different approaches, including multiple signal classification and empirical wavelet transform techniques in damage detection and quantification. Artificial neural networks for automated damage identification are introduced. This book suits students, engineers, and researchers who are investigating structural health monitoring, signal processing, and damage identification of structures.
Concrete Structures Subjected to Impact and Blast Loadings and Their Combinations
Although much research focuses on investigating the responses of reinforced concrete (RC) structures under sole impact or blast loads, the responses of RC structures under a combination of impact and blast loads currently represent a gap in our knowledge. The combined actions of impact and blast loadings may be applied to RC structures during accidental or intentional collision of vessels, vehicles, etc., carrying explosive materials. A comprehensive study on the vulnerability of various structural members is carried out using finite element (FE) simulations under combination of impact and blast loads with the variations of various loading- and structural-related parameters and key parameters. This book introduces various structural analysis approaches for concrete structures when subjected to extreme loads such as impact and blast loadings. The theory of the combinations of impact and blast loads is proposed that can provide primary insights to the specific readers to develop new ideas in impact and blast engineering, including combined actions of extreme loads arising from real-world intentional or accidental events. This book will be of value to students (undergraduate or postgraduate), engineers, and researchers in structural and civil engineering, and specifically, those who are studying and investigating the performances of concrete structures under extreme loads.

This book explains the basic concepts, theory and applications of fuzzy systems in control in a simple unified approach with clear ex-amples and simulations in the MATLAB programming language. Fuzzy systems, especially, type-2 neuro-fuzzy systems, are now used extensively in various engineering fields for different purposes. In plain language, this book aims to practically explain fuzzy sys-tems and different methods of training and optimizing these systems. For this purpose, type-2 neuro-fuzzy systems are first analyzed along with various methods of training and optimizing these systems through implementation in MATLAB. These systems are then em-ployed to design adaptive fuzzy controllers. The authors aim at pre-senting all the well-known optimization methods clearly and code them in the MATLAB language.
