How can we learn about God? What is he really like? Long before the birth of Jesus the Prophets of Israel made some life-changing discoveries about the nature of God. They found that God was not only a God of justice but also of mercy, compassion and Unbreakable Love But the life and work of the Prophets of Israel which is foundational to the New Testament and to the mission of Jesus and the Apostles is largely unknown to most Christians today. This Hebraic background to the New Testament was lost soon after the Apostolic Age when Greek and Latin concepts became dominant. How did the Prophets discover so much about the nature and purposes of God? How did they learn, like Jeremiah, to stand in the 'Council of the Lord' and to get into the 'secret place of the Most High'? How did the Prophets discover the 'unbreakable love' of God that prepared the way for the coming of Jesus? That's what this book is about. The great shaking of the nations which is taking place today, gives relevance and urgency to the message of this timely book. 2nd Edition 2019Dr. Clifford Hill is internationally known as a writer and lecturer. His books on biblical studies have included commentaries on the Old Testament prophets. Unbreakable Love combines scholarship, knowledge of the land of Israel and the history of its people with numerous stories from Dr Hill's own ministry which make this a very readable book.

This book written in the early 1980s when the world was very differ-ent from the 21st-century Britain of today was published by Collins in their Fount Paperback series and ran into several editions. It has been out of print for many years but Issachar Ministries decided to reprint it in this new edition as its message is much needed today. The message is solidly rooted in biblical truth, but also has many stories from Dr Hill's long ministry which makes it very readable. The book begins with the dramatic story of the rescue of a small child in the Swiss Alps whose father risked his life to save her. This sets the scene for a review of the account of God's love for men and women whom he created in his own image and how this was revealed to the prophets of ancient Israel in the Bible. This new edition has been carefully updated and the message made relevant to 21st-century readers who will surely be blessed by it. The Rev Dr Clifford Hill MA, BD, PhD sociologist and theologian, is well-known as a writer, lecturer, preacher and broadcaster with a prophetic ministry. He has had many years' experience of working with church leaders of all denominations as well as working alongside political leaders in both Government and Opposition. He has written over 40 books ranging from sociological studies of race and community relationships to biblical commentaries but this is quite different and has an autobiographical narrative. He is currently editor-in-chief of the online magazine Prophecy Today. uk and, together with his wife Monica, codirects Issachar Ministries which seeks to support and encourage Bible believing Christians.

From Testing to Assessment: English as an International Language provides a critical review of conventional and alternative approaches to the assessment of English literacy skills in various parts of the world. It presents empirical studies conducted in three major settings: in countries such as Japan and Brazil where English functions as the language of international commernce; in multilingual countries such as Nigeria and Zimbabwe where English is the national language of education and government; and in such countries as Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States where English is the dominant language. The book opens with a discussion of language assessment in relation to debates about the nature of literacy; it concludes with a discussion of policy implications, which is grounded in literacy theory as well as in practical constraints such as available human and material resources.

The increasing reliance of our educational system on standardized tests has precipitated a national debate. This debate, however, has proceeded with little attention to the tests themselves. This book makes a scholarly contribution to the debate by using the methods of discourse analysis to examine not only representative material from reading tests but also children's responses to it. The book is particularly attentive to the role of culture in shaping children's understanding of what they read.

The authors first indicate how one must understand the old recognition that apparently individual behavior within any family must be understood in terms of the whole. They then investigate features of this whole, first as a local production and then in the historical context to which it is respons
