"After the Ride" is a sequel to JR Conway's previous book, "Greyhound Therapy". This book continues the fictional treatment of the impact on small communities when people move from one jurisdiction to another by bus, either voluntarily or against their will. Law enforcement authorities and mental health providers sometimes find it more economically convenient to furnish individuals with a bus ticket to another location rather than, for whatever reason, meet their needs. The greatest impact in the small communities falls on law enforcements. Sheriff Craig Spence, though undermanned and having insufficient resources is tasked with dealing with the influx of such arrivals while continuing to meet his obligations of fighting crime. This book also addresses many questions left unanswered in the fast-moving series of events in Greyhound therapy.

CUA Press is proud to announce the CUA Studies in Canon Law. In conjunction with the School of Canon Law of the Catholic University of America, we are making available, both digitally and in print, more than 400 canon law dissertations from the 1920s to 1960s, many of which have long been unavailable. These volumes are rich in historical content, yet remain relevant to canon lawyers today. Topics covered include such issues as abortion, excommunication, and infertility. Several studies are devoted to marriage and the annulment process; the acquiring and disposal of church property, including the union of parishes; the role and function of priests, vicars general, bishops, and cardinals; and juridical procedures within the church. For those who seek to understand current ecclesial practices in light of established canon law, these books will be an invaluable resource.
Teaching Music in Higher Education

Teaching Music in Higher Education

Graduate students already know what to teach when they begin teaching undergraduates, but often find they lack the knowledge of how to teach it. Teaching Music in Higher Education is the only book designed specifically to help graduate students in music teach undergraduates (both music- and non-music majors). Covering all aspects of the process-from the first class taught through obtaining tenure and promotion-this book effectively answers a host of questions that beginning instructors are likely to have. The authors emphasize innovation and learner-centered pedagogy, stressing a teaching style tailored to meet individual student needs. Beginning music instructors learn how to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students' abilities; create an environment for learning; help students become autonomous self-regulated learners; and reflect upon and evaluate their own teaching. This book shows graduate students how to accomplish all of these goals and more. Features *Materials for organizing a course, including a course preparation guide with sample syllabi, an outline of a typical course sequence for a music major, sample performance assessment tools, and sample forms for student midterms and final evaluations *Vignettes written by undergraduate music majors and reflections from successful music faculty *Advice for the job search and professional development *A sample Faculty Activities Report for music professors and a sample tenure and promotion materials packet *National Association of School of Music (NASM) requirements and teacher education requirements for music education majors *Suggestions for further reading at the end of each topic
Orbital Mechanics

Orbital Mechanics

Prussing; Conway

Oxford University Press Inc
1993

In the planning of any space mission, whether manned or unmanned, one of the most important problems to solve is the orbital mechanics of the spaceflight-how to get the spacecraft from here to there. Sometimes the problem is a relatively simple one: for instance, determining the amount of thrust for how much time to get the space shuttle into a low-earth stable orbit has been more or less perfected. But working out the equations for launching the Voyager probe to visit four major planets, their satellites and rings, without crashing into any of them or flying too far from them, was a formidable problem. As more spaceflights are planned and designed, students and engineers will need improved training in orbital mechanics. This classroom-tested textbook takes its title from an elective course at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign which has been taught to senior undergraduates and first-year graduate students for the past 22 years. The subject of orbital mechanics is developed starting from the first principles of Newton's laws of motion and the law of gravitation. However, unlike other books, the authors also derive the other important results from the first principles, including the fundamental Kepler's equation, the n-body and two-body equations of motion and Kepler's laws of planetary motion, orbital elements, Lambert's time-of-flight equation, the rocket equation and staging, impulsive orbit transfer and rendezvous, interplanetary spacecraft trajectories, the hyperbolic gravity-assist relations, the Hill-Clohessy-Wiltshire equations of relative motion, the Lagrange perturbation equations, and the Gauss and Laplace methods of orbit determination. The subjects of orbit transfer and spacecraft trajectories receive special attention because they are a favorite research area of the authors and their students.
