Top rope soloing has been a climbing technique employed by climbers without partners for fifty years, allowing a climber to top rope climbs with a certain degree of safety lacking in free soloing. For various reasons, these techniques were never formally codified or documented for others to learn from or build upon; instead, they were passed on through word of mouth. One possible reason for this lack of formalization was the inherent risk associated with these techniques, making people hesitant to take responsibility for potential accidents. However, the advent of the internet changed this dynamic. Suddenly, the subject began to receive significantly more attention, both on climbing forums and websites, as well as on video platforms like YouTube. While this helped disseminate more information, it also created a problem: what was once a lack of information turned into an overwhelming abundance of it. Everyone was sharing their thoughts at once, leading to a mix of both bad and good advice.Simultaneously, there was a surge in interest in top rope soloing, accompanied by a corresponding increase in accidents. Something needed to be done to address this issue."On the Line" was a three-year project aimed at consolidating all available information on the subject, both old and new, and integrating it with industrial rope access techniques. The goal was to finally produce a foundational text on the subject. It's important to note that "On the Line" is not meant to be the definitive authority on the subject but rather the first step in the right direction.

Find out what your customers and employees are really thinking with this indispensable resource Scaling Conversations: How Leaders Access the Full Potential of People delivers invaluable strategies for how leaders can make their communications more inclusive and access the voices of those employees who rarely feel empowered to speak up. As constituent numbers scale, leaders have traditionally struggled to make communications a conversation with the entire organization, settling instead for small focus groups, talking at people in town halls, and delivering surveys after the fact. The result is exclusive, narrow decision-making that disengages and under-utilizes talent and human capital. And now, as the remote environment grows, the challenge and imperative for engaging conversations on a wider scale is even greater. Scaling Conversations provides the solution. Having led a remote team for over a decade and having worked with thousands of leaders across North America, Dave MacLeod teaches you how to: Scale your business by listening to the voices that really matterAccess and maximize the human capital in your organizationMake decisions that create unity and move the group forwardDecrease employee turnover caused by poor communication Within these pages, you'll learn how to better facilitate conversations with a wider and more representative array of clients and employees, and not just the loudest ones in the town hall meeting or Slack channel. Perfect for any leader who's responsible for understanding what employees are really feeling and thinking, Scaling Conversations also belongs on the bookshelves of anyone who wants to learn how to discover what the “silent majority,” who are often drowned out by the loudest people in the room, actually believes.

As Wolfgang Gullich said, "getting strong is easy, getting strong without getting injured is hard." Sooner or later, nearly all climbers get injured and it will be injuries that ultimately dictate how far you get in climbing, if you let them. Unfortunately, the data shows it takes over a decade just to get small proportions of medical research adopted in regular practice. Sourcing reliable and up to date advice on preventing and treating finger, elbow, shoulder and other climbing injuries is challenging to say the least. You need to be the expert, because there are so many strands of knowledge and practice to pull together to stay healthy as a climber, and no single source of advice to cover all of these. The book draws together both the cutting edge of peer reviewed sports medicine research, and the subtle concepts of changing your climbing habits and routine to prevent and successfully recover from injuries. It is a handbook on how to take care of yourself as a lifelong climbing athlete. By spanning the fields of climbing coaching, physiotherapy, sports medicine and behavioural science, it goes beyond the general advice on treating symptoms offered by sports medicine textbooks and into much more detail on technique and habits specific to climbing than the existing climbing literature base. You will learn how your current climbing habits are already causing your future injuries and what you can do to change that. If you are already injured, it will prevent you from prolonging your injury with the wrong climbing habits and rehabilitation choices. You will learn how the ingredients of prevention and good recovery come from wildly different sources and how you have been using only a fraction of them. Fully referenced throughout, the practical advice for diagnosis, rehabilitation and prevention of climbing injuries is drawn from up to date peer reviewed sports medicine research.

9 out of 10 climbers are stuck. They are stuck on the same things. Some of the things that hold climbers back from improving their climbing standard are the same as they were 20 years ago: motivation, managing time, and not being able to analyse and correct their own basic technical or tactical errors. But they are also stuck for a new set of reasons. Twenty years ago, the problem was that no one knew how to train for climbing. Information was scarce. Today, it's the opposite problem. Book after book lists technique, exercises and tips. Navigating this barrage of information, filtering out the irrelevant and homing in on what matters to your life, your climbing and your circumstances has been the limiting step for today's climber. This 176 page book is the first to present the science of improving at climbing in a way that will actually help you make confident decisions and stay focused on the things that will make the biggest difference.

Millions of Canadians crave a good mental challenge, and in order to feed their hunger many turn to the daily crossword puzzle in their local newspaper. Often, however, before they even get to 1-Across, they must stop thinking "in Canadian" and shift cultural gears. It is a sad reality that Canada just doesn't figure highly in what is undoubtedly one of our favourite pastimes: solving the daily crossword. The crosswords in this book contain plenty of references to this country: its heroes and rogues, its geography, sports, history, arts, - its "Canadian-ness." Here the solver might discover a Knowlton, a Gzowski, an Iqaluit, or maybe even a Come By Chance. Our Canadian spelling is recognised as well, in words such as "colour" and "centre," and there is also a sprinkling of French, in keeping with the bilingual nature of this land. These puzzles appeal to a broad range of solvers, from the dabbler
