Because equity and instruction are inextricably bound Why are equity visits such a critical first step to increasing opportunity and access for our under-served students? Because they take instructional rounds to a new level, providing a powerful lens for investigating the intersections of equity and instruction. After all, how can we possibly deliver equitable learning experiences, opportunities, and outcomes for our students, without first pinpointing problems of practice? That’s where Equity Visits will prove absolutely indispensable to district and school administrators. It details how to combine a strong focus on instruction with explicit, intentional efforts to address systemic inequities. Inside you’ll find A range of data collection activities and tools to target central issues of equity in your school Clear guidelines on how to investigate the ways instructional practices, structures, and beliefs lead to inequitable educational experiences—and how these are often masked in the day-to-day life of schools and districts A frank discussion of how to make race and racism an explicit part of investigating and addressing educational inequities Voices of school and district leaders who have taken crucial first steps to become "equity warriors" Recommendations on how to develop policies, initiatives, and practices to confront those inequities Few dispute that instructional improvement must be a central focus of educational leadership, but for too long achieving educational equity has been absent from the conversation. Here is your opportunity to ensure equity occupy a central spot in data collection and analysis, and be explicitly discussed at all levels of your school or district organization. In short, essential reading and doing for all administrators!

Environmental Injustice in the United States provides systematic insight into the social, economic, and political dynamics of environmental decision-making, and the impacts of those decisions on minority communities. The first part of the book examines closely the history of the environmental justice movement and the scholarly literature to date, with a discussion about how the issue made the public agenda in the first place. The second part of the book is a unique quantitative analysis of the relationship among race, class, political mobilization, and environmental harm at three levels-- state, county, and city. Despite the initial skepticism of the authors, their study finds both race and class to be significant variables in explaining patterns of environmental harm. The third part of the book then offers policy recommendations to decisionmakers, based on the book's findings. It was named a Choice Outstanding Academic Book of 2001.
Type Dancing is a continuation of David Allen's previous collections, The Story So Far, and (more). The poems span his lifetime, and many were published in small magazines, websites and anthologies. Most of them are stories, a sharing of David's experiences as a sailor, student and holder of a dozen odd jobs before starting his 36-year career in journalism in Virginia, Indiana and the Far East.
1 Corinthians 14:8 Unless the trumpet sounds who will know that it is time for battle? The body of Christ has been asleep for many years and I believe that Christ is coming back very soon. The warning signs are all around us and indicate within this generation. I am not going to blow a trumpet but I want to alert the Church that it is time to wake up. It is time to get strong. It's time to get ready. Remember the parable of the ten bridesmaids waiting for their groom. Five were wise, five foolish. Well, the foolish ones ran out of oil and missed the groom. So it will be for anyone who is not prepared for the Lord's return. This book gives fresh oil every morning all year long. It is a devotional of brief but anointed entries to give that extra supply of fuel. Listen, if the reader takes these entries to heart, they will keep those lamps burning. That's just wisdom.

ASKffirmations is a term I coined in order to uniquely identify the technique that I have successfully applied in my own life and set it apart from other similar techniques. It isn't about asking better questions but rather to ask questions I already have the answers to, inserting them into the question, and asking "How did I do that?" which gives me the consciousness of already having my desire. What you possess in consciousness is given to you. Possess the fulfilled desire. There is inherent principle at work in the question that creates the experiences... the expression that the impression of the question makes. That is what ASKffirmations do. David Allen Foreword by Gail BoyntonWhat you are about to read has the potential of rocking your world if you are up to the task. I guarantee it will be well worth it.When David Allen asked me to write the Foreword of his new book about questions, of course, it came in the form of a question. "How did I find someone to write the foreword to my upcoming book so easily?" Even though I recognized that as one of his carefully worded, magical questions - from the desire fulfilled - I still couldn't resist guessing who it might be.After I offered a couple names, he finally said, "You You were a part of it right from the beginning." He was kind enough not to mention that I had been hinting ... frequently ... in a not so subtle way ... that I really wanted him to write a book about the questions technique. I had found it to be a powerful method to affirm my desire in the form of a question already answered ... an answer already in existence. It felt very good, and I was seeing results all the time. Little did I know he had already started writing the book.Let me start by saying that ASKffirmations are delightfully easy There is nothing complicated about them. However, there is something required of you if you want to reap the rewards of a fantastic life. You need to pay attention to David's succinct instructions and see them through. An important take-away for me is that you must be willing to change your Thoughts to be in harmony with Universal Principles. If you start there, you will find that your specific desires will fall into place. And ASKffirmations are the tools that will turbo-charge your creative imagination and give your Subconscious Mind, your Genie, the clarity of your desires.David provides the instruction and a wonderful list of examples to help you understand the structure of the most effective ASKffirmations. I read every single one of them, out loud, one right after the other. I highly recommend it because it felt awesome. I felt a stirring within ... a progression upward in consciousness ... as I read them. After you have read this amazing book, you will own a vital piece of understanding to your spiritual journey, and you will be inspired to create your own custom, life-changing ASKffirmations. THERE'S YOUR POWER How did you know that ASKffirmations were your key to a magical life?

For nearly two decades, Looking Together at Student Work and The Power of Protocols have sustained educators in their professional learning. Protocols in the Classroom expands the scope of those books from teachers’ professional learning to include students’ learning, providing teachers with the tools they need to use discussion protocols to support students in developing crucial skills and habits as readers, writers, critical thinkers, and active participants within the classroom community. For each protocol the authors provide a clear set of steps, tips for teachers and students in facilitating the protocol, and a story of a teacher using the protocol with students. The book is filled with resources for getting started using protocols with students, as well as for deepening the use of protocols over time. It also relates protocols to other strategies for supporting students’ learning, including Accountable Talk, Thinking Routines, and Socratic seminars. The authors describe how protocols contribute to a schoolwide culture of discussion, inquiry, and reflection.

It is 1966.Young naive Tom Adams arrives in recently independent Uganda to teach English at a Kampala boys high school where he almost immediately becomes involved in the local expatriate theatre scene with its frequently clashing egos and hot-house sexual shenanigans. Through his friendship with the charismatic African actor Robert Kabarega and his attraction for the beautiful Philomena - daughter of a wealthy Asian business-man - he is further implicated in the dangerous world of Ugandan politics where he finds himself under surveillance by the Government Special Branch in the form of the sinister Inspector Bitek. Mixing farce, comedy and near tragedy, these on/off dramas eventually attain a climax of betrayal and personal compromise that is to resonate with Tom down the years.
“If all you know is the New Testament, you do not know the New Testament” - so the late New Testament scholar Martin Hengel is reputed to have said. According to the Scriptures considers the way in the New Testament writers utilized the Jewish Scriptures in order to describe, articulate and evaluate the death of Jesus, takes Hengel at his word. What Old Testament texts are quoted in the New Testament, how are they used and what might such analysis mean for the (contemporary) reader? Focusing in particular on the passion narratives in the Synoptic Gospels, According to the Scriptures seeks to engage with these questions. It will provide a useful new framework for thinking about why the early Church understood Jesus' death in terms of the Scriptures, what difference that understanding made, and what relevance that might have for us as we seek to make sense of the death of Jesus.
