David Charles presents a study of Aristotle's views on meaning, essence, necessity, and related topics. These interconnected views are central to Aristotle's metaphysics, philosophy of language, and philosophy of science. They are also highly relevant to current philosophical debates. Charles aims, on the basis of a careful reading of Aristotle's texts and many subsequent works, to reach a clear understanding of his claims and arguments, and to assess their truth and their importance to philosophy ancient and modern.
The Electric In The Glen Book 3 in the Cannich Series of Novels - Stories of the Highlands in the Days of the Hydro 1948 and the Highlands of Scotland ring to the crash of jackhammers and the roar of gelignite as one of the most ambitious civil engineering projects the world had seen, is let loose. The Hydro has come and in the quiet backwaters, the lochs and the glens, small, close-knit communities start to resemble towns of the wild west as from all corners of the globe, wild, hard men come chasing the Hydro's shilling. It is Scotland's Klondyke. For Donald Fraser, after army service that has taken him to the European battlefields and a German prison camp, it is his second summer back in his home village. He is enjoying the peace, but initially unsure of his long-term intentions, his peace has not come easily. Now he is settled - or so he believes but soon the dark and savage side of life on the Hydro rears its unwelcome head and a family secret, long buried and never suspected, throws him again into turmoil. Once more the question faces him - stay in Cannich or go? It is a question only he can answer. Politics, crime and a hint of romance all come together in The Electric in the Glen, the third novel in the acclaimed Cannich Series by David Charles "A brilliant read. Highland nostalgia at its best" "A page turner. I've already purchased the third edition in this trilogy and can't wait to get stuck into it. This should be made into a tv series. Can't say more than that." Amazon reviews of Hydro Days and Highland Ways - the second novel in the series.
The Improv Dictionary: An A to Z of Improvisational Terms, Techniques, and Tools explores improvisational approaches and concepts drawn from a multitude of movements and schools of thought to enhance spontaneous and collaborative creativity. This accessible resource reveals and interrogates the inherited wisdoms contained in the very words we use to describe modern improv. Each detailed definition goes beyond the obvious clichés and seeks a nuanced and inclusive understanding of how art of the moment can be much more than easy laughs and cheap gags (even when it is being delightfully irreverent and wildly funny). This encyclopedic work pulls from a wide array of practitioners and practices, finding tensions and commonalities from styles as diverse as Theatresports, Comedysportz, the Harold, narrative long-form, Playback Theatre, and Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed. Entries include nuanced definitions, helpful examples, detailed explorations of the concepts in practice, and framing quotes from a leading practitioner or inspirational artistic voice. The Improv Dictionary offers valuable insights to novice improvisers taking their first steps in the craft, seasoned performers seeking to unlock the next level of abandon, instructors craving a new comprehensive resource, and scholars working in one of the numerous allied fields that find enrichment through collaborative and guided play. Each significant entry in the book is also keyed to an accompanying improv game or exercise housed at www.improvdr.com, enabling readers to dig deeper into their process.

A fictional account of post war life in the Scottish Highlands during construction of the hydro electric scheme
Aristotle initiated the systematic investigation of perception, the emotions, memory, desire and action, developing his own account of these phenomena and their interconnection. The Undivided Self aims to gain a philosophical understanding of his views and to examine how far they withstand critical scrutiny. Aristotle's account, it is argued, constitutes a philosophically live alternative to conventional post-Cartesian thinking about psychological phenomena and their place in a material world. Charles offers a way to dissolve, rather than solve, the mind-body problem we have inherited.

Alyn, along with his two flatmates, were on track to graduate college at the end of the semester, entering the real-life responsibilities of adulthood. Openly differentiated on personal situations regarding work, class, and relations, they were always there for one another throughout the years. Rather than following the landscape, Alyn sought out for an adventure and was primed as he ran across a girl at a concert. Deciding to take a chance to see where his heart led him, he set off on an endeavor toward finding what could be his eternal or his perpetuation.Following rudimentary rituals, Alyn walked a tightrope between his aspirations and those around him; however, he yearned to fathom his dreams into flourished fruition. Rather than being stuck in an endless wheel of the mundane routine, passion and persistence pushed him to facilitate his plan with no regard to those he accidently accepted into his life. Though not as simple of a task as he originally sought, as tethered flirtations incurred, Alyn found an outlet for his agenda, though through a trek that could manifest in mental and physical dire toward others along the venture to South Padre Island for an exciting spring break getaway. Coercing his brother to assist, hoping a childhood friend could prevent a volatile family recurrence. A tale of college kids and Greek-life siblings and lifelong friends who intertwined their journeys as they all chased their own desires, love and betrayal, secrets and deceit, hope and despair.Yearning to venture toward a piece of potential paradise with their own personal burdens to bear, demons within desire, questioning their self-aptitude of consciousness. Though the trip was one person's journey, all those who entangled themselves brought with them their own perceptions of reality, not understanding that a switch of fate's fuse was ignited.

EU Cohesion policy, along with support for agriculture and rural development, is one of the main items of EU spending. As such, the performance of the policy has come under increasing scrutiny. Perhaps surprisingly, however, past attempts to assess the effectiveness of the EU’s have proved to be highly ambivalent. This book examines the long-term achievements of Cohesion policy from 1989 to 2012 and draws out the main policy implications. Originally undertaken for the European Commission by the authors, this major longitudinal study adopts an innovative approach to assessing the effectiveness and achievements of this policy, building on case studies of 15 regions from different parts of Europe. The rationale for the book is to present the findings of the research in a concise and digestible manner that will be of value to policy-makers across the EU and to academics interested in the past effectiveness and future direction of the policy. The research brings out messages for the conduct of Cohesion policy in the current programme period, covering 2014-2020. It also has implications for the debates, already launched, on how Cohesion policy might evolve after 2020."
