Each Scoring Book is a complete set of score sheets for the Comprehensive Aphasia Test bound together in a convenient booklet with intuitive layout for scoring of each sub-test. Front page features a client information sheet for easy filing, whilst a master page allows for recording re-test scores in the same place for easy comparison. Scoring Books are supplied in packs of ten. The Comprehensive Aphasia Test (CAT) is a test for people who have acquired aphasia and can be completed over one or two assessment sessions. The test includes a user manual, a ring-bound cognitive screen and language battery a scoring booklet, and - new to this release - a concise Aphasia Impact Questionnaire which replaces the former Disability Questionnaire. The cognitive section assesses people's abilities across a range of task that can affect rehabilitation. Forming the main body of the test, the language battery provides a profile of performance across all modalities of language production and comprehension. The Aphasia Impact Questionnaire was co-produced with people with aphasia. It is a pictorial Patient Reported Outcome Measure, which produces both qualitative and quantitative information. It supports the person with aphasia to give a subjective rating of how language difficulties identified in the Language Battery affect their daily life, enabling first steps towards goal setting. In addition, the CAT helps the therapist to track changes over the course of recovery and provides a guide to likely outcomes on the basis of an early assessment. It is supported by normative data on people both with and without aphasia, and extensive data on reliability and clinical validity. The CAT allows users to: • Identify underlying impairments • Find where to focus assessments using PALPA and other batteries • Ascertain the practical, psychological, and social impact of aphasia, from the perceptive of the person with aphasia • Create a profile of strengths and weaknesses to guide therapy. Structured around fully up-to-date models of language processing from cognitive neuropsychology this test is an indispensable resource for speech and language therapists and researchers. It provides as much information about people's language ability as possible in a relatively brief test designed to be completed in 90-120 minutes.

There is something sinister about a British seaside town. On the surface they’re all funfairs and breezy promenades. Now softcover binding, the second edition of The Voice Clinic Handbook has been completely updated and expanded, largely rewritten, and features contributions by world-leading voice practitioners from laryngology, voice therapy, osteopathy, singing, psychotherapy, and voice science. Following the principles set by its acclaimed predecessor, the new edition is a manual of good practice in the voice clinic - from measurement and instrumentation, through evaluation and treatment, to considerations for special populations, including singers and voice professionals. Divided into three sections, Part I provides an outline of the structure and function of the vocal tract, Part II addresses common treatment modalities, and Part III outlines the equipment for measuring voice: uses and limitations. The Editors have deliberately steered away from filling the book with everything there is to know about the management of voice problems. This is about practical, everyday management of voice and has been carefully and deliberately designed following feedback from voice clinic team members on what they have found useful and what works best for them. It is not intended to be a cover-to-cover read; it is more for dipping into in order to inform your own speciality or even clarify what it is that your colleagues in other specialities have to offer. In short, it contains pretty much everything you need to know in your everyday clinical practice.
The Oxford Handbook of Singing

Singing has been a characteristic behaviour of humanity across several millennia. Chorus America (2009) estimated that 42.6 million adults and children regularly sing in one of 270,000 choruses in the US, representing more than 1:5 households. Similarly, recent European-based data suggest that more than 37 million adults take part in group singing. The Oxford Handbook of Singing is a landmark text on this topic. It is a comprehensive resource for anyone who wishes to know more about the pluralistic nature of singing. In part, the narrative adopts a lifespan approach, pre-cradle to senescence, to illustrate that singing is a commonplace behaviour which is an essential characteristic of our humanity. In the overall design of the Handbook, the chapter contents have been clustered into eight main sections, embracing fifty-three chapters by seventy-two authors, drawn from across the world, with each chapter illustrating and illuminating a particular aspect of singing. Offering a multi-disciplinary perspective embracing the arts and humanities, physical, social and clinical sciences, the book will be valuable for a broad audience within those fields.

Spiritual Pride, We Are All Divine will show you why gays are loved, supported and connected to the divine. Awakening to this truth will empower you to feel proud about being on a gay spiritual journey and to love who you are as a person and as a soul. Spiritual Pride is based upon developing a loving and empowering spiritual belief, but it also addresses some of the emotional issues that gay men and women are more prone to encounter-issues stemming from being judged, rejected and bullied. Spiritual Pride then offers insight into how we can heal the pain we carry as a result of these negative experiences and move forward with finding happiness and fulfillment in our lives. Spiritual Pride teaches: How the power of positive thinking can benefit our mind, body and soul. The benefits of mindfulness and meditation and gives in depth instructions on how to do it. How to develop our intuition and understand the law of attraction which is always active in our lives. Spiritual Pride is inspired by spiritual wisdom that comes from David's studies in metaphysics (a spiritual philosophy that studies the human existence and consciousness) and connecting to his higher self through meditation. He wrote this book because he believes all gay women and men deserve to awaken to a loving and supportive spiritual belief that is supported by truth. Our spiritual beliefs can be the inspiration that pick us up and gets us back on track, especially when we are struggling or not finding support from those around us. "I hope my book brings you comfort, wisdom and joy, but most of all, I hope it empowers you to express your heart's desire and be proud of being on a spiritual journey - a gay spiritual journey " David Howard

Originally published in 1987, Aphasia Therapy surveys the approaches to aphasia treatment from throughout the world that have been taken both in the past and in the present day. The authors critically examine the assumptions underlying different approaches, and show their effects on modern clinical practices. Finally, the book offers new perspectives on some contemporary issues in aphasia therapy, the effectiveness of treatment, and the relationship between an analysis of a patient’s problems and the processes of treatment. Aphasia Therapy is divided into three parts: Part 1 illustrates some approaches to treatment in the period up to World War II – for instance, a didactic approach which emphasised the importance of repetition; the second part considers the different kinds of approaches to therapy that have developed since then – seven "schools" of treatment are identified; Part 3 considers whether there is evidence that treatment of aphasia is effective: the authors argue that in future, aphasia treatment must involve the development and evaluation of specific treatment methods that are theoretically motivated by a coherent analysis of the individual patient’s problems.Students, postgraduates, and practising clinicians in speech therapy will find this volume of great interest, as will neuropsychologists and clinical psychologists.

The Path to Higher Consciousness, begins by addressing how we are constantly being programmed to think fearful thoughts. Living in fear keeps us in a primal state of mind; making it easier for other people to control us. When we free our mind from fear and controlling beliefs, we begin to see synchronicities and divine guidance come forward in our lives. We begin to see how life is beautiful and worth living with passion and courage. The Path to Higher Consciousness, teaches the reader how to transcend fearful thoughts and how to get oneself into their our own higher conscious state of mind. It's here that we find inner peace and feel a divine connection in our lives. This connection places us in a universal flow of energy that can bring us wisdom, joy, physical well-being and an incredible sense of belonging. The Path to Higher Consciousness, will show you why. The Path to Higher Consciousness is based upon spiritual teachings that have come from David's studies in metaphysics and through connecting to his higher self. David developed this connection by awakening his spirituality and getting himself into a state of higher conscious awareness. He learned how to do this through mindfulness, meditation and seeing beyond fearful programming, all teachings found within The Path to Higher Consciousness Some of the topics discussed in the book are: Learning there is a higher consciousness that is available to all of us for support, wisdom and well-being.Learning how the human mind exists in a state of duality as it perceives both human learned perceptions (ego) and a peaceful awareness that exists beyond our human thoughts. Learning how to follow our intuition rather than depending solely on our ego thinking. The various aspects of mind (conscious and subconscious) and the human ability to manifest subconsciously. How to become aware of the magnetic power of our thoughts and feelings-thoughts create and feelings attract. The exercises found within the book will help you to discover: What is holding you back in life.Finding ways to balance and uplift your energy. Methods of self-reflection and developing self-awareness Methods for meditation and mindfulness. How to heal through forgiveness. How to receive divine insight and creative ideas that come to us from our higher self or Spiritual Source.Get a copy of The Path to Higher Consciousness, and start on your path to higher consciousness now

‘Christ! You guys look like a couple of Feds.’ 1977, the Thunderbird Motel.J. J. Wedick and Jack Brennan, two fresh-faced FBI agents, were about to go undercover. Their target: the charismatic, globe-trotting con man Phil Kitzer, who was responsible for swindling (and spending) millions of dollars and who some called the world’s greatest. One problem: Wedick and Brennan weren’t trained for the job, and didn’t fully know what they were getting themselves into. They plunged forward anyhow, making it up as they went along. As the young agents became entangled in Kitzer’s outrageous schemes, they also grew to respect him – even to care for him. And Kitzer began to think of Wedick and Brennan as best friends, schooling them in everything from opening phony banks to picking up women.Chasing Phil by David Howard is the story of an incredible round-the-world manhunt, a charismatic con man and a friendship that changed crime forever.

Our ability to treat common bacterial infections with antibiotics goes back only 65 years. However, the authors of this report make it clear that sustaining a supply of effective and affordable antibiotics cannot be without changes to the incentives facing patients, physicians, hospitals, insurers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. In fact, increasing resistance to these drugs is already exacting a terrible price. Every day in the United States, approximately 172 men, women, and children die from infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria in hospitals alone. Beyond those deaths, antibiotic resistance is costing billions of dollars through prolonged hospital stays and the need for doctors to resort to ever more costly drugs to use as substitute treatments. Extending the Cure presents the problem of antibiotic resistance as a conflict between individual decision makers and their short-term interest and the interest of society as a whole, in both present and future: The effort that doctors make to please each patient by prescribing a drug when it might not be properly indicated, poor monitoring of discharged patients to ensure that they do not transmit drug-resistant pathogens to other persons, excesses in the marketing of new antibiotics, and the broad overuse of antibiotics all contribute to the development and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The book explores a range of policy options that would encourage patients, health care providers, and managed care organizations to serve as more responsible stewards of existing antibiotics as well as proposals that would give pharmaceutical firms greater incentives to develop new antibiotics and avoid overselling. If the problem continues unaddressed, antibiotic resistance has the potential to derail the health care system and return us to a world where people of all ages routinely die from simple infections. As a basis for future research and a spur to a critically important dialogue, Extending the Cure is a fundamental first step in addressing this public health crisis. The Extending the Cure project is funded in part by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its Pioneer Portfolio.

This guidebook is a must-have resource for anyone teaching a television production class or running a morning news show at the elementary, middle, or high school level.Teaching a television production class is a real challenge, especially when working with the typical budget and time limitations of most elementary, middle, or high school curricula. Beyond the technical aspects of teaching this subject, what is the best way to keep students engaged and challenged while teaching them skills that will help make them college and career ready? Spanning lesson plans, video production activities, assessment, and more, this book supplies a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to teaching a television production class, using whatever equipment is readily available. It focuses on the critical aspects of how to teach television production and organize lessons, rather than the quickly evolving details of what equipment or editing software to use. The authors also provide lessons on creating and executing a daily newscast show, how to evaluate that show and collect school-wide data for further evaluation and improvement, and how to archive and mount these productions on the school website.

This is a second edition of the highly popular volume used by clinicians and students in the assessment and intervention of aphasia. It provides both a theoretical and practical reference to cognitive neuropsychological approaches for speech-language pathologists and therapists working with people with aphasia. Having evolved from the activity of a group of clinicians working with aphasia, it interprets the theoretical literature as it relates to aphasia, identifying available assessments and published intervention studies, and draws together a complex literature for the practicing clinician. The opening section of the book outlines the cognitive neuropsychological approach, and explains how it can be applied to assessment and interpretation of language processing impairments. Part 2 describes the deficits which can arise from impairments at different stages of language processing, and also provides an accessible guide to the use of assessment tools in identifying underlying impairments. The final part of the book provides systematic summaries of therapies reported in the literature, followed by a comprehensive synopsis of the current themes and issues confronting clinicians when drawing on cognitive neuropsychological theory in planning and evaluating intervention. This new edition has been updated and expanded to include the assessment and treatment of verbs as well as nouns, presenting recently published assessments and intervention studies. It also includes a principled discussion on how to conduct robust evaluations of intervention within the clinical and research settings. The book has been written by clinicians with hands-on experience. Like its predecessor, it will remain an invaluable resource for clinicians and students of speech-language pathology and related disciplines, in working with people with aphasia.

Lost Rights: The Misadventures of a Stolen American Relic
Near the close of the Civil War, as General Sherman blazed his path to the sea, an unknown infantryman rifled through the North Carolina state house. The soldier was hunting for simple Confederate mementos--maps, flags, official correspondence--but he wound up discovering something far more valuable. He headed home to Ohio with one of the touchstones of our republic: one of the fourteen original copies of the Bill of Rights. Lost Rights follows that document's singular passage over the course of 138 years, beginning with the Indiana businessman who purchased the looted parchment for five dollars, then wending its way through the exclusive and shadowy world of high-end antiquities--a world populated by obsessive archivists, oddball collectors, forgers, and thieves-- and ending dramatically with the FBI sting that brought the parchment back into the hands of the government. For fans of The Billionaire's Vinegar and The Lost Painting, Lost Rights is "a tour de force of antiquarian sleuthing" (Hampton Sides).
