Behind all the calm on the streets of London, United Kingdom, a growing problem still exists, and one in ten of us undoubtedly has been impacted by this problem, whether directly or indirectly. That problem is a five-letter word that still exists today: fraud. Using the figures that are currently available, the NFA, National Fraud Authority, estimates that the financial services industry lost GBP3.8 billion to fraud during 2008. In that same year, a young man was arrested and sentenced to prison, and after being reformed, he had a story to tell.
The Wanderers and Critical Realism in Nineteenth Century Russian Painting

The rise of critical realism in nineteenth-century Russia culminated in 1870 with the formation of the Wanderers, Russia’s first independent artistic society. Through depictions of the harsh lives of the peasantry, the fate of political activists, Russian history, landscapes, and portraits of the nation’s cultural elite, such as Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, the society became synonymous with dissident sentiments. Yet its members were far from being purveyors of anti-Tsarist propaganda and their canvases reflect also a warm humanity and a fierce pride for such nationalistic themes as Russian myth and legend. Through close readings of single canvases, investigations of major themes and a multi-disciplinary integration of the Wanderers within Russian society, this book gives the first comprehensive analysis of the crucial cultural role played by one of the most successful and genuinely popular schools of art, the legacy of which comprises a fascinating panorama of life and thought in pre-revolutionary Russia.

Whether you play in person, or online, this is a must for bridge lovers around the worldThis is an important, and in some ways revolutionary, book. The point count method of hand evaluation was first proposed in 1914 and popularized in 1934 by Milton Work. The Banzai Method advanced by David Jackson and Ron Klinger improves on Milton Work by reassessing the relative values of the honour cards but also adds a further dimension to accurate hand evaluation by including the tens and is of crucial importance when assessing balanced hands. According to Eric Kokish, an internationally respected American authority, who has contributed the Foreword, the many example deals are an eye-opener. When you finish this book, it is unlikely that you are going to look at your hand the same way as you have in the past.
Now in its second edition, Entertainment & Politics is an essential text for understanding how young people acquire and hold political beliefs over time. In this updated and expanded edition, the author reaches beyond the U.S., including research on Canada, Great Britain, and Ireland to investigate a broader international picture of the effect the entertainment media has on the socio-political beliefs of young people. The book examines the many ways that the entertainment media influence young people, and the extent to which young people’s beliefs differ from those of their parents, teachers, and peers. Findings indicate that media’s influence does not fit into neat «conservative» and «left/liberal» patterns, but interacts with parental and peer influence in heretofore unexamined ways. This up-to-date text is designed for undergraduates, graduate students, professors, and interested lay readers.

The fourth edition consists of consideration of all aspects of the jurisdiction of English courts and arbitrators over maritime claims, applicable law, judgments, remedies and security interests, including the continuing critical impact of membership of the European Union. The comprehensive updating encompasses legislative, convention and judicial developments since the publication of the last edition in 2000 – in particular the replacement of the amended Brussels Jurisdiction and Judgments Convention 1968 by Council Regulation 44/2001 and its effect on other maritime convention jurisdiction provisions, relevant Civil Procedure Rules and judicial interpretation of both.
Organisations around the world are in crisis! The principles and approaches on which success is built are no longer clear. Success in the future will require challenging many of the concepts and practices which underpin most organisations today. David Jackson provides practical advice, supported by case studies, for managers seeking to build 'dynamic organisations' where customers drive continuous improvement and people are challenged by clear and incisive leadership.
