In 1952, in the small Southern mill town of McClendon, two teenage boys, unlikely friends from opposite sides of the railroad tracks, hear the legend of a lost gold mine whose tunnels supposedly reach underneath parts of the town. They determine to spend their summer searching for the mine entrance, unknowingly pitting themselves against secretive and sinister forces of unexpected origin.
