This empirically-grounded text examines the policy, planning, development and implementation of disability sport events. It draws insights from a major international comparative study of different types of large multi-national sporting events: integrated events where able-bodied athletes and athletes with a disability compete alongside one another, and non-integrated events where athletes with a disability are separated by time but occurring in the same location. Guided by a critical disability studies perspective, the book highlights the strategic opportunity of sporting events to influence social change around community participation, and attitudes and awareness about disability more broadly. It also challenges assumptions about positive event legacies and suggests a need for a multi-lateral approach to planning. An important read for students, researchers and scholars in the fields of sport policy, sport development, disability sport, sport management, disability studies and event studies.

Humour in the Bible?

This serious and reverent book takes a look at a much neglected subject in the Bible: Humour. The reaction of many people to the suggestion that the Bible might talk about heaven, hell, sin and humouris like that of John McEnroe: "You canNOT be Serious "When the Bible is humorous, it is often at its most serious (as Dale Ralph Davis points out). This book defines biblical humour, explains the humour in all the 66 books except a few. It even looks briefly at the Apocrypha, in order to see how their non-biblical humour is different from that of scripture. Importantly, this book then applies what you should learn from humorous passages in the Bible. If we fail to notice and understand the intentionally humorous passages in scripture, then we will also misapply them. Biblical humour is rarely 'funny-ha-ha', but it is always important. Biblical humour helps us to enjoy our God; it protects us from sinful pride, because when we laugh at ourselves, it helps us to be humble. Biblical humour strengthens and builds our faith in a powerful way. We should never laugh at God, but we should always laugh with him Find out how, in this unique book. '...a nice summary of the Bible's humour, using a broad definition of humour, which includes irony, sarcasm, scorn, surprise, shock (in all, some 35 categories) Each discussion also includes applications to Christians (and others) today. In brief, humour is laughing with God, often at ourselves. There is a real place for humour in the Christian life, but we need to be careful how we use it. The author, after an introduction, goes through each of the books of the Bible, giving examples.'- Robert C. Newman, Emeritus Professor of New Testament and Christian Evidences, Missio Seminary, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Emeritus Director of the Interdisciplinary Biblical Research Institute, M.Div. (FTS), STM in OT (BTS), see https: //www.amazon.com/Robert-C.-Newman/e/B071181B6S '... an unusual and thought-provoking book about humour in the Bible. He helpfully highlights the ways in which humour appears in the Bible to give us a better understanding of the Lord and of ourselves. The systematic approach of working through the books of the Bible gives new insights into all sorts of passages.'- Joe Dent, Minister of St Andrew's Church, Plymouth, UK.

Twelve discussion Bible studies suitable for small groups or individual use, that cover the whole of Genesis, with a biblical theological approach, based on the 1984 NIV. Each study takes approximately 1 hour for a small group or when used as individual study material. For larger groups, allow a longer time. The Bible passages may be read outside a group context (for 'homework') to save time when all together. Each chapter gives background, states the aims of the study, suggests ice-breakers, consists mainly of questions for groups discussion, has space for writing answers, identifies applications, and also has a range of possible answers to the questions.Suitable background reading would include 'According to Plan' by Graeme Goldsworthy, IVP, 1991 and "God's Big Picture' by Vaughan Roberts, IVP, 2003. There is also a reading list that includes commentaries on Genesis. Part I - 'The Way Down' covers Genesis chapters 1 to 11.Part II - 'The Way Up' covers Genesis chapter 12 to 50.This set of studies come from the author of 'Covenants for Evangelicals', also available from Amazon in Kindle format, black and white paperback, and full colour paperback with larger print. These studies were tested on the Ashford Congregational Church #1 Home Group (the best; thanks guys) back in 2008. Some were shocked at the content of Genesis We all heard God speaking through this part of his precious word, the Bible. Furthermore, we discovered how understanding Genesis is fundamental to understanding the whole Bible. The practical applications included in each study should benefit not only individual Christians, but churches, parents and whole families. Other authors cross-referenced include John Calvin, Dale Ralph Davis, Richard Coekin, William Dumbrell, A.W. Pink, Charles Darwin( ), C.L. Woolley (archaeologist), Ann Benton and Paul David Tripp. Enjoy, benefit and bless.PART I - THE WAY DOWN1. 1:1-2:3 God, Creation and Us2. 2:4-2:25 God Provides; Man Images3. 3:1-6:8 Sin, Death and Judgement4. 6:9-9-29 Noah: A Fresh Start5. 10:1-11:26 Nimrod, Humanism and God's SovereigntyPART II - THE WAY UP6. 12:1-14:24; Ch. 18,19 Abram and Lot7. 15:1-17:27; 18:1-15; Ch. 21:1-20 Abraham, Sarah and Ishmael8. 20; 21:22-34; 22:1-19; 23:1-20; 25:1-18 Abraham Tested: Threats to God's Promises9. 24; 25:19-27:40 Isaac, Jacob and Esau: God's Blessings and God's Sovereignty10. 27:41-35:15 Jacob: Blessed, Preserved, Chastised, Converted11. 35:16-45:24; 49:1-28; 50:15-21 Joseph: His Brothers, and God's Sovereignty12. 37:12-36; 45:25-50:26 Joseph, Jesus and the Resurrection.
