To Chester and Beyond: Meaning, Text and Context in Early English Drama
This volume brings together a selection of the major articles of David Mills (1938-2013), which along with similar volumes by Alexandra F. Johnston, Peter Meredith and Meg Twycross makes up a set of "Shifting Paradigms in Early English Drama Studies". Mills was one of these four key scholars whose work has changed what is known about English medieval drama and theatre. He made major contributions to understanding English medieval theatre in the widest sense but more specifically to the nature and development of medieval plays and their performance at Chester. The scope of his work from manuscript to performance has created new knowledge and insights brought about by his remarkable technical skill as an editor and researcher. His texts of the Chester Cycle of Mystery Plays have become the standard works. In the light of this outstanding research the volume is comprised of four sections: 1. Editors and Editing; 2. Cultural Contexts; 3. Staging and Performance; 4. Criticism and Evaluation. An editorial introduction opens the work.

Moreton Island Tourism, Queensland Australia. Great Barrier Reef, Travel and Tour. If you're not going further north in Queensland than Brisbane but want a fix of tropical bliss, sail over to Moreton Island. Its prelapsarian beaches, dunes, bushland and lagoons are protected, with 95% of the isle comprising the Moreton Island National Park & Recreation Area. Apart from a few rocky headlands, it's all sand, with Mt Tempest, the highest coastal sand hill in the world, towering high at a lofty 280m. Off the west coast are the rusty, hulking Tangalooma Wrecks, which provide excellent snorkelling and diving. The island has a rich history, from early Aboriginal settlements to the site of Queensland's first and only whaling station at Tangalooma, which operated between 1952 and 1962. There are four small settlements, all on the west coast: Tangalooma (home to the island's only resort), Bulwer near the northwestern tip, Cowan Cowan between Bulwer and Tangalooma, and Kooringal near the southern tip.

Hoi An Travel Guide, Vietnam. Tourism Information. Graceful, historic Hoi An is Vietnam's most atmospheric and delightful town. Once a major port, it boasts the grand architecture and beguiling riverside setting that befits its heritage, and the 21st-century curses of traffic and pollution are almost entirely absent. The face of the Old Town has preserved its incredible legacy of tottering Japanese merchant houses, Chinese temples and ancient tea warehouses though, of course, residents and rice fields have been gradually replaced by tourist businesses. Lounge bars, boutique hotels, travel agents and a glut of tailor shops are very much part of the scene here. And yet, down by the market and over on Cam Nam Island, you'll find life has changed little. Travel a few kilometres further you'll find some superb bicycle, motorbike and boat trips and some of central Vietnam's most enticingly laid-back scenery and beaches are within easy reach.
Hilton Head Island Travel Guide, South Carolina, USA
Hilton Head Island Travel Guide, South Carolina, USA. Gullah History and Tradition. Hilton Head Island is known far and wide as a vacation destination that prides itself on its top-notch golf courses and tennis programs, world-class resorts, and beautiful beaches. But the island is also part of the storied American South, steeped in a rich, colorful history. It has seen Native Americans and explorers, battles from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, plantations and slaves, and development and environmentally focused growth. More than 10,000 years ago, the island was inhabited by Paleo-Indians. From 8000 to 2000 BC, Woodland Indians lived on the island. A shell ring made from their discarded oyster shells and animal bones from that period can be found in the Sea Pines Nature Preserve. The recorded history of the island goes back to the early 1500s, when Spanish explorers sailing coastal waters came upon the island and found Native American settlements. Over the next 200 years, the island was claimed at various times by the Spanish, the French, and the British. In 1663, Captain William Hilton claimed the island for the British crown (and named it for himself), and the island became home to indigo, rice, and cotton plantations.

Harbour Island, Bahamas. Tourism, Travel Guide. Briland', as locals and repeat visitors call it, is renowned as one of the loveliest, most stylish and enjoyable islands in the Bahamas, if not the Caribbean. Just 5km long and 2km wide, it's a photogenic bric-a-brac of pink-sand beaches and colonial houses that once served as the national capital. Now it's a tourist-brochure-designer's delight: humble pastel cottages abut BS$800-a-night boutique hotels, chickens peck the dust in front of sleek French bistros, and local fishermen wave to millionaire businessmen as they speed past each other in identical golf carts. Quaint Dunmore Town, on the harbor side, harks back 300 years: it was laid out in 1791 by Lord Dunmore, governor of the Bahamas (1787-96), who had a summer residence here. The clip-clop of hooves may have been replaced with the whir of golf carts, but the daily pace since Dunmore's time hasn't changed all that much.

Hanoi Tourism, Vietnam. Travel Guide, History Information. Hanoi, one of the most beautiful of the colonial Indochinese cities, is often the start or end point of a trip to Vietnam, and what a great welcome or farewell it is. Oozing with charm, Hanoi has gone through wholesale changes since Vietnam swung open its doors to tourism, but it remains true to its essential personality and is an amazing city to experience. Though considerably quieter than big sister Saigon, Hanoi still retains a vibrant atmosphere. From the early hours until late at night, the fig-tree shaded streets swarm with careening motorbikes, often with four, five or even six people aboard. A cyclo is available on most street corners, but unless you are making a particularly long trip, the best way to explore Hanoi is by foot. It seems that in Hanoi, no two streets meet at 90 degrees and there so many one-way thoroughfares it sometimes feels like you can't get there from here, nor here from there. Count on getting lost. But a day of dodging traffic and elbowing your way through overcrowded footpaths is exactly how most people spend their time in Hanoi, and it's more fun than any purpose-built tourist attraction. Keep a map close at hand though, so when you find something that tickles your fancy, you can mark it down otherwise you risk never finding it again. Hanoi has a number of lovely parks and museums where you can while away the hours of a warm summer's afternoon Lenin Park, south of Hoan Kiem district and just north of Bay Kau Lake are among the most popular, especially on holidays, when it's packed with picnickers. In winter months, you can find yourself a cozy cafe to snuggle up in, or find a streetside restaurant boiling up a pot of something belly-warming and delicious. While Hanoians are certainly happy to be free of the French occupation, they continue to embrace French culinary culture
Cape York, Cooktown Travel Guide, North Queensland Australia
Cape York, Cooktown Travel Guide, North Queensland Australia. Great Barrier Reef Environment Touristic Guide. Cooktown, on the eastern coast of Cape York Peninsula, is 1600 km north of Brisbane and 650 km from Torres Strait. Cooktown grew rapidly as the nearest port for the Palmer River gold rush in the 1870s. By the 1880s, its population peak, one-fifth of its residents were Chinese. The town declined rapidly in the first two decades of the twentieth century and by the 1950s it was almost a ghost town. Tourism gradually came to its rescue. Its relative isolation and its spectacular setting on Cape York drew increasing numbers from the 1980s. Situated on the eastern side of the mouth of the Endeavour River, Cooktown was named after James Cook who explored the east coast of Australia in 1770. Cook was compelled to careen and repair his vessel, Endeavour, after holing it on reef coral. Cook and his crew remained at the Endeavour River for 48 days until August 1770, having occasional contact with local Aboriginal people. More than a century passed before Cooktown was established.

Indonesia Information. Tourist Guide, History, Bali Travel Environment. After the arrival of Austranesian people into the archipelago between 2,500 BCE and 1,500 BCE, Indonesia quickly developed dozens of kingdoms, some short-lived and some lasting for a lengthy period of time, like the all-conquering Srivijaya kingdom of Sumatra, and the Javanese-Malaysian kingdom of Majapahit. Unfortunately, the arrival of colonial powers brought these kingdoms to a standstill. Marco Polo regularly passed through the Indonesian islands during the 1200's. However, it wasn't until the 1500's that European presence began influencing the area. The Dutch and the British began colonizing parts of Sumatra, Java and the modern day Malaysian peninsula and eventually, Dutch forces took control of Indonesia in 1619, although there were small British sections in Sumatra. Of the 18,000 islands under the Indonesian flag, only 6,000 are actually inhabited. This provides tourists with an exhaustive list of places to explore that are truly 'off the beaten path'. However, this doesn't mean travelers must be adventurous to enjoy a vacation to Indonesia, but it wouldn't be off the mark to suggest that Indonesia is Southeast Asia's most dynamic holiday destination. Bali: So were you wondering if there's anything to do on an island covered in rice paddies and tropical jungle? Or did you just want to sit in the sun and drink beer? Well, some people do. In the centre of the island one can go white-water rafting, canyoning, motoror pedal bike riding, or offroading in various types of vehicles.Families will love Bali Zoo or Safari Park, Taro Elephant Park, Bali Bird Park and more. Ibiza Island Travel Guide, Spain
Ibiza Island Travel Guide, Spain. Formentera Environment, Ibiza Tourism. All-night raver, boho-cool hippy, blissed-out beach lover Ibiza is all this and more to the many, many fans who have a soft spot for the Balearics' party-hard sister. In summer the cream of the world's DJs (David Guetta, Sven V th, Armin van Buuren et al) descend on the island, making it the ultimate destination for clubbers. Ibiza's modest population is swallowed whole by the seven-million-odd tourists that arrive en masse each year, and nowhere does sunset chilling or boho-glam style quite like the White Isle. Though Ibiza has long been synonymous with fun in the sun hedonism, a trip to the island is not all about sultry clubs and all-night raves away from the bright lights there's a quieter side to this destination. But first to the merrymaking, because make no mistake this Spanish island is one of the premier party destinations in Europe. During the summer superstar DJs arrive en masse to spin the vinyl and keep revellers dancing until the morning light. Ibiza Town is a hotbed of late-night revelry. The municipality is home to the world-famous clubs Pacha and Amnesia, which share quaint cobblestone streets with more traditional attractions such as Santa Maria d'Eivissa Cathedral. Sant Antoni (San Antonio) is the real clubbing capital, though. The so-called 'Sunset Strip' is renowned for its rowdy clubs, but there are sophisticated alternatives nearby with chic bars offering expensive cocktails and exquisite sunset views. Its reputation as a party island is notorious, but Ibiza has reconnected with its 1960's hippy roots in recent years, with more laid-back parties and a burgeoning arts scene. Those seeking quiet time or craving a bit of culture are also well catered for: Ibiza is blessed with sandy beaches, limpid waters and alluring coves, not to mention an abundance of picturesque towns and villages. Families are also well catered for in relaxing resorts such as Santa Eularia des Riu (Santa Eulalia) and Es Canar (Es Cana) on the northeast coast. Whether you're there to dance till dawn, relax on a beach, imbibe the culture or hike amidst the greenery, Ibiza is a rite of passage for every discerning traveller.
