Perform genome analysis and sequencing of data with Amazon Web Services Genomics in the AWS Cloud: Analyzing Genetic Code Using Amazon Web Services enables a person who has moderate familiarity with AWS Cloud to perform full genome analysis and research. Using the information in this book, you'll be able to take a FASTQ file containing raw data from a lab or a BAM file from a service provider and perform genome analysis on it. You'll also be able to identify potentially pathogenic gene sequences. Get an introduction to Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)Make sense of WGS on AWSMaster AWS services for genome analysis Some key advantages of using AWS for genomic analysis is to help researchers utilize a wide choice of compute services that can process diverse datasets in analysis pipelines. Genomic sequencers that generate raw data files are located in labs on premises and AWS provides solutions to make it easy for customers to transfer these files to AWS reliably and securely. Storing Genomics and Medical (e.g., imaging) data at different stages requires enormous storage in a cost-effective manner. Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Glacier, and Amazon Elastics Block Store (Amazon EBS) provide the necessary solutions to securely store, manage, and scale genomic file storage. Moreover, the storage services can interface with various compute services from AWS to process these files. Whether you're just getting started or have already been analyzing genomics data using the AWS Cloud, this book provides you with the information you need in order to use AWS services and features in the ways that will make the most sense for your genomic research.

This work includes Foreword by David Nicholson - Chief Executive, National Health Service of England. In the past, there has been too little emphasis and investment made in developing leaders in healthcare. People have become leaders without being prepared or trained or supported in the role. Individuals need to understand the context, the concept and models of good leadership, the practical steps to becoming a good leader, and how to sustain the various components of a well functioning and effective organisation, whether that is a large NHS trust or hospital department, a clinical group or practice team. This guide has been written by a range of writers from organisational consultancy and NHS backgrounds who are all experienced in developing and supporting leaders, planning and providing education, and change management. It is specially designed for independent learning, with answers to frequently asked questions, self-assessment exercises and helpful tips. "How to Succeed as a Leader" is ideal for all healthcare professionals in (or aspiring to) leadership roles. It also provides inspiration for academics and workplace educators, managers and leaders in government, strategic health authorities and workforce deaneries. 'There is constant reorganisation and a changing culture in our health service. Good leadership is essential to address the changes required and take others with you so that the service can function effectively. There has been an amateurish approach to leadership in the NHS in the past, where people have become leaders without being prepared or trained for the role or supported in it. This book is all about presenting you with a practical approach to becoming a competent leader, to prepare you to lead in a positive way and realise your responsibilities as a leader.' From the Preface.

While many architects use PHP for projects, they are often not aware of the power of PHP in creating enterprise-level applications. This book covers the latest version of PHP – version 5 -- and focuses on its capabilities within a multi-tier application framework. It contains numerous coding samples and commentaries on them. A chapter discusses object orientation in PHP as it applies to the multi-tier architecture and other chapters discuss HTTP and SOAP, the two communication protocols most useful in tying together multiple layers. There is also coverage of database design and query construction as well as information about tricks you can use in generating user interfaces.

Chicago Essays in Economic Development

Chicago Essays in Economic Development

David Wall

University of Chicago Press

What happens when the methods of the Chicago school of economics are applied to development problems? By collecting fifteen prime examples for this volume, David Wall has shown that these methods go a long way toward the clarification and solution of the economic problems faced by the world's underdeveloped countries. The contributors, all members of the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago, are Theodore Schultz, Harry G. Johnson, Arnold C. Harberger, Bert F. Hoselitz, and Larry A. Sjaastad, and D. Gale Johnson. These Chicago economists share a common intellectual framework universally recognized in the profession and derived from three beliefs: first, that theory is of fundamental importance; second, that theory is irrelevant unless set in a definite empirical context; and third, that in the absence of evidence to the contrary, the market works. Critics of the Chicago school tend to ignore the first two of these and to overlook the qualifying proviso of the third. This volume sets out to rectify that misunderstanding and to circulate more widely some of the best work produced by the Chicago school. The essays in the opening "general" section clearly illustrate the characteristics of the Chicago school while also reflecting some well-known idiosyncrasies of four of its more prominent spokesmen. The other two sections, "Domestic Policy" and "Trade and Aid," cover topics on which Chicago authors have made a marked impact. Together, these essays will provide a basic reference book for students of the subject, illustrating one of the leading methods of analyzing economic development problems.
