The Big House Anthology is a celebration of the last decade of work and plays by a unique theatre company, featuring five original plays that offer a chance for stories with diverse casts to contribute to the canon of theatre's literature. As a UK-based theatre company, The Big House empowers care leavers and other disadvantaged young people through performance and long-term support. Their plays are born from the hearts and minds of the young people they engage, with this anthology offering five very different plays: a runner struck down by MS; a rapper who spits and snarls and tries to find it in herself to forgive; a teenager who fights for wealth, status and respect in the underworld of county lines; a cackling cowboy they call Corona; and a dog that has been tracked, murdered and stuck in a stew. This anthology celebrates the explosive creativity that comes from mobilising and platforming diverse voices, and its importance in generating social change. Framed and introduced by directors and writers discussing their practice, along with an introduction by Jez Butterworth, this is a book for students, educators, artists, theatre-practitioners, social workers and storytellers to tell stories that are rarely told, let alone with such fierce authenticity.
Pool and Spa Leak Investigation: A practical guide for trained professionals
Pool and Spa Leak Investigation: A Practical Guide for Trained Professionals provides a clear, reliable, and safety-driven workflow for diagnosing water loss in residential, commercial, and public aquatic systems. Written specifically for trained pool and spa technicians, this guide replaces guesswork and risky shortcuts with practical, scientifically grounded methods that stand up to scrutiny. Drawing on over forty years of hands-on field experience across seven countries, David Watson explains how to work systematically-starting with simple checks and advancing through controlled, repeatable testing procedures. The book focuses on real-world application, not theory, and is built around methods technicians can use immediately in the field. Inside you will learn: How to rule out false positives before escalating a job How to conduct evaporation tests (equipment-running and equipment-off) How to interpret results to distinguish shell leaks from plant or pipework issues How to perform safe, defensible water-only pressure-testing How to diagnose air entrapment vs genuine pressure loss When to slow down, reassess, or call for escalation How to communicate results clearly to clients and document them properly This guide also includes practical examples, a glossary, an imperial appendix, and printable forms for evaporation tests and water-only pressure certificates. Designed as a field companion-not an engineering textbook-this pocket guide promotes safe practices, reduces unnecessary excavation and misdiagnosis, and helps technicians deliver evidence-based conclusions with confidence. For aquatic operators, service technicians, commercial pool staff, and anyone responsible for diagnosing leaks in pool or spa systems, this book provides a safe, structured approach that works in real-world conditions.

Originally published in 1980, this book introduces students of social studies to ideas in moral, social and political philosophy which are useful for assessing social policy. At the same time the book enables philosophy students to discover the value of social and political philosophy beyond its traditional confines. The book begins with the claim that modern social welfare has to be thought of as help given to strangers and goes on to ask how services of this sort can be justified. The first part of the book discusses the distinction between social and economic policy. Using Titmuss’ notion of ‘the gift-relationship’ it shows its implications for our understanding of social integration, alienation, community and the importance of moral status in social life. It then considers the justification of our ways of discriminating among strangers in our social policies. The idea of social justice and the implications of the ‘work ethic’ are examined, particularly in relation to our views of what help strangers need or deserve and the relationship between welfare rights and human rights is also discussed.

In this groundbreaking interdisciplinary work, the authors focus on organizational analysis to understand workplace wellbeing, deviating from previous research that mostly looks at the individual worker or intervention. In addressing the question of why workplace health and wellbeing practices initiatives fall short of delivering sustained improvements in worker wellbeing, this book moves beyond localized explanations of the failure of specific interventions. Instead, it creates theoretical frameworks that explain how wellbeing at work can be improved and sustained. The authors use evidence from systematic and comprehensive surveys of the literature as well as new empirical research, and present an explanatory framework of the processes through which organizations change to implement and accommodate workplace health and wellbeing practices. Learning, adaptation and continuation explain successful implementation of workplace health and wellbeing practices, while Gestalting, fracturing and grafting explain how organizations resolve or negotiate conflict between health and wellbeing practices and existing organizational procedures, systems and practices. In addition, the authors reflect on the implications for research of reframing the unit of analysis as the organization and how studies on workplace wellbeing practices can provide a conceptual platform for thinking about the way organizations can create social value in a broader sense. This book, authored by experts in their field, is a great resource for academics and professionals of organizational studies and of worker wellbeing across the social sciences, behavioural sciences, business and management courses, wellbeing research, and labour studies.
