Sarah Pinnet has been in Oxford, studying law and marksmanship. Her sister Elizabeth has been in southern France studying cuisine and fencing. And their sister Charlotte has been in Italy studying chemistry and hand-to-hand combat. When word comes that their father has fallen ill, they each arrest their studies and come to join him and their mother in Lincolnshire. It is there that they find that they have enemies who have devised a scheme to take away everything that their father has created for them.
