The book presents dialogues with fourteen highly influential semioticians: Juri Lotman, Vyacheslav Ivanov, Boris Uspenskij, Umberto Eco, Paolo Fabbri, Myrdene Anderson, Winfried Nöth, Gunther Kress, Roland Posner, Stuart Kauffman, Jesper Hoffmeyer, Terrence Deacon, Paul Cobley, and Jaan Valsiner. They have all made a remarkable impact on contemporary research in the Tartu centre of semiotics. As well as these remarkable dialogues, the first part of the volume features an illuminating sequence of chapters on topics including the importance of dialogues, the historical roots and context of semiotics in Tartu since the 19th century, plus the main principles formulated in Jakob von Uexküll’s and Juri Lotman’s works. Contradictoire pour les uns et incomprehensible pour les autres, le marrisme - la theorie du linguiste sovietique N.Ja. Marr (1864-1934) - est depuis des decennies une enigme pour les linguistes et les historiens des sciences humaines. En partant de l'etude des lois semantiques de Marr, cet ouvrage propose une nouvelle cle de lecture des travaux de Marr, permettant d'expliquer certaines contradictions de sa " nouvelle theorie du langage ". L'analyse des relations complexes entre les notions de formes et de sens, de langues et de langage dans la linguistique marriste etablit les liens de cette derniere avec d'autres courants de l'epoque. Le livre fait reflechir au probleme de la nouveaute dans les recherches linguistiques, tout en apportant une reponse au mystere constitue par l'enorme popularite de la doctrine marriste en URSS dans les annees 1920-1930.
