Ellen Terry stata una grande attrice inglese, probabilmente una delle migliori interpreti shakespeariane, ma con questo libro passa dall'altra parte della barriera e si cala nel ruolo di spettatrice, anzi, di spettatrice entusiasta. Perch la compagnia dei Balletti Russi, con le sue coreografie innovative, stata una delle realt pi travolgenti nella storia della danza classica e del teatro del Novecento in generale. L'autrice quindi analizza la compagnia e alcune delle sue produzioni pi famose dandone, come lei stessa afferma, "pi impressioni personali che critiche". Vediamo quindi nomi mitici quali Vaslav Nijinsky, Anna Pavlova o Tamara Karsavina, e balletti storici, come Le Spectre de la Rose, Les Sylphides o Scheherazade, attraverso gli occhi di chi li ha ammirati in prima persona.
