Linda de la Barca is a typical thirteen-year-old girl. She enjoys playing with Estrella the cat, seeking out adventures, and eating chocolate. Linda and Estrella venture out one stormy night and they stumble across an amazing diary with the letter "I" embossed on the outside cover. Linda is mesmerized by the diary's mysterious contents and decides to coax her cousin, Juana to join her on their adventures to unlock El Alc zar Treasures. Linda believes if she can uncover the mysteries that lie within the walls of the castle, she will find out who she really is. To Linda's surprise she learns just how important she truly is and that you can be an ordinary young girl with an extraordinary future.

Penelope Bushtail was a typical little squirrel with a beautiful, fluffy tail. Penelope put all her confidence in her gorgeous tail that she forgot all about what's really important to others: Not what you look like, but how you treat others, and most important is how you value yourself, her inner squirrelly-attitude is what really mattered . Penelope was envied by all in squirrel school and even her closest friends noticed how she valued that gorgeous tail of hers and not their friendships. They plot a devious little squirrely plan in order to teach Penelope a lesson. Her friends knew that she was so busy thinking of herself, to see what they were up to, that they were positive Penelope wouldn't miss that fluffy tail of hers. Most times it takes true friends in order for one to realize just how special YOU really are on the inside, not just what your appearance is. Smart, caring squirrely friends soon realize Penelope wasn't as self-absorbed as they thought she was, in fact she turned out to be quite extraordinary after all. Penelope Bushtail teaches us the importance of finding and being your true self. No matter what your age is it's always a good lesson to remember that it's never too late to change your attitude and strive to be the best squirrel (person) you can be.
