An overview of coupled line fundamentals, this text explains their applications in designing microwave and millimetre-wave components used in today's personal communication, audio/visual, microwave, radar, satellite communications, and other systems. The text provides readers with an understanding of stripline, microstrip, monolithic and coplanar technologies. Emphasizing design, analysis and modern fabrication techniques and practices, it provides knowledge and guidance in helping them develop compact and low-cost design solutions and components, such as loose and tight couplers, filters, hybrids, transformers and baluns.

Symbolic rewriting techniques are methods for deriving consequences from systems of equations, and are of great use when investigating the structure of the solutions. Such techniques appear in many important areas of research within computer algebra: the Knuth-Bendix completion for groups, monoids and general term-rewriting systems; the Buchberger algorithm for Grobner bases; the Ritt-Wu characteristic set method for ordinary differential equations; and the Riquier-Janet method for partial differential equations. This volume contains invited and contributed papers to the "Symbolic Rewriting Techniques" workshop held at the Centro Stefano Franscini in Ascona, Switzerland from April 30th to May 4th, 1995. The workshop brought together 40 reseachers from various areas of rewriting techniques, the main goal being the investigation of common threads and methods. Following the workshops, each contribution was formally refereed and 14 papers were selected for publication.

Here's a broad, integrated view of existing communications technologies available world-wide -- including the Internet and Web, digital mobile telephony, ISDN, SMDS, frame relay, and ATM -- from a practical business perspective. Covering both private and public networks, the book offers a basic explanation of a wide range of technologies and describes their underlying principles and features, as well as the factors that differentiate them. The guide also showcases typical applications, exposes inherent limitations, explains pricing and methods of comparison, and discusses security pitfalls and protection systems.

What happens between student and teacher when computers move into the classroom? Drawing from over 20,000 episodes in the longitudinal database of Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow, this book gives case studies and teacher testimonies, addressing teachers' perennial concerns: teacher learning and teacher beliefs about instructional change; redefining student and teacher roles; maintaining student engagement; reducing teacher isolation; managing the technology-rich classroom; and support for instructional change from school principals, school districts, technology trainers and colleagues.
