Being six years old, Maple Wafflehoffer decides she's old enough to uphold the family tradition of baking waffles at the yearly county fair. Maple pours the flour, beats the eggs and milk, then folds in the blueberries to make the best waffles she has ever made. Unfortunately, Maple comes in second place, losing to the school bully Priscilla Fry, who teases Maple about losing. Maple is sad at first, then looks across the tent at her family, who are cheering and clapping. Maple realizes that coming in second place isn't that bad, especially for the first time entering a competition. Maple proudly excepts her second-place ribbon, knowing she can enter the baking competition again next year.

Maple Wafflehoffer was excited spring had arrived. That meant a visit to her aunt and uncle's farm that was located on the other side of Waffleville. After a hearty lunch of waffles, Maple's uncle told her that she could go outside and play but he warned her to stay away from the brown mare and her foal. Maple is a curious young girl took that as a challenge and went in search of the foal, despite her uncle's wishes. In her search, Maple came across several farm animals that were of not much help in her tracking down the foal. It wasn't until she came upon the farmer's sheepdog that she was able to locate them. Upon finding the foal, Maple feared she'd made a frightful mistake and wished she could be transported back to the safety of her family. There are a few more surprises in store ¬- though the biggest one may lie with Maple herself.

Pete encounters the blue monster and strikes out at him. Pete is startled by a blue monster. Without hesitation, Karate chops the blue creature, who falls to the ground.Pete realizes he was scared because the monster is different. Pete lets the monster sleep in his older brother's bedroom now that they have become friends.
