Teos on näköispainos John Lanen Keynotes-sarjan vuoden 1894 julkaisusta, jonka kansi on groteskista ja dekadentista tyylistään tunnetun kuvittajamestari Aubrey Beardsleyn käsialaa. Lanen Keynote-sarjassa julkaistiin myös samana ilmestymisvuotena Arthur Machenin "Suuri jumala Pan", joka aloitti "Tanssivan faunin" myötä Abraxas Publishingin tetralogiaksi kasvaneen suomennosten sarjan. Kirja on julkaistu numeroituna kovakantisena 300 kpl painoksena.
