Thug Preachers: The Unspoken Truth of Pastors Who Rule Through Fear, Bullying and Intimidation
Society offers two main categories of hard thugs- and both categories exist in the pulpit Ever wondered if God actually requires Blind Obedience to your church pastor, as some churches teach? Frank Jackson, the author, is a seasoned international minister and broadcast anchor who knows how to ask the tough questions--Does your church teach faithfulness to the church and unquestioned allegiance to the pastor... over faithfulness to God?-Does your pastor claim to have a vision from God that only he or she is holy enough to understand?-And, does your pastor claim to be the infallible voice of God to you and the members of your congregation? If you had to think twice about any of these questions before answering them... then, Thug Preachers, is definitely the book for you. The author, provides an awareness to how thug pastors twist the Word of God, to fit their own selfish, greed driven purposes. He explains what authoritarianism is, and why it is one of the most accepted forms of leadership in the Christian church worldwide.Thug Preachers, is not a tell-all, about certain pastors and their indiscretions. Nor, is it intended to be an expose' of the few celebrity preachers who have been under fire by other writers over recent years. The author believes the problem of abuse from the pulpit is much older and much broader than all the celebrity preachers combined.Powerful insight from this book, will help you: Discover what pulpit abuse really is, as Jackson digs deep, to help you see into the mind of the thug preacher. He explains the different types of pulpit hoodlums, and the traits they mutually share. He tells you why they do it, and why it's so hard for them to stop abusing the people that God entrusted to their care. He shows you, how you can tell if you are in a spiritually unhealthy or unsafe church environment... and what you should do if you are. The author also addresses the, hushed, issue of Mind Control within the Christian church. Jackson helps you clearly understand, that... "He who controls the information fed to the mind, controls the mind. And, of course, he who controls the mind... controls the individual." Find out how controlling pastors can affect you, your personal life, your relationships... and even your marriage, and your home. This book, removes the blinders that have prevented you from seeing, how today's church, which should be a place of healing for broken and wounded people, now seems to be spreading more disease, than cure; more pain than relief; and more sorrow than happiness. Learn how you can help bring healing to ailing victims of church abuse. The author touches the core, of member abuse, and connects with the heart and soul of current and past victims of this horrific sin. It's easy to tell, that he is committed to the inner-healing of victims of dictatorial leadership. He assures the individual who has been victimized by the pastor, and by the pastor's family... "It is not your fault, that you were abused by someone in whom you trusted." Next, with compassion, he speaks to the abusive pastor, and offers hope and counsel. The author knows that the matter of pulpit and church abuse is a real problem... but thank God, it is a treatable problem. God has the power, and the desire, to turn the abusive pastor and the church around, for the greater good. Now, to the sincere pastor, Jackson offers advice, and a unique plan for turning your church into a healing center for wounded people. He even teaches the members of your church how they can assist you. He also explains how you can convert your unsaved, or non-churched visitors, into spirit-filled, faithful members. In keeping with his central focus, the author, gives clear and concise instructions on how any unsaved individual can obtain a "Brand New" life, in just a matter of minutes.Frank Jackson, invites you to read, how churches across America, and around the world, are suffering from a bad case... of "Thug Preachers "

Language, Names, and Information is an important contribution to philosophy of language by one of its foremost scholars, challenging the pervasive view that the description theory of proper names is dead in the water, and defending a version of the description theory from a perspective on language that sees words as a wonderful source of information about the nature of the world we live in. Challenges current pervasive view that the description theory of reference for proper names has been refutedDiscusses several topics at the center of current debates, including representation and information, two-dimensionalism, possible worlds, and broad vs. narrow contentMaintains the conversational and somewhat informal tone of the original lectures upon which the book is based
Perception

Perception

Frank Jackson

Cambridge University Press

What is the nature of, and what is the relationship between, external objects and our visual perceptual experience of them? In this book, Frank Jackson defends the answers provided by the traditional Representative theory of perception. He argues, among other things that we are never immediately aware of external objects, that they are the causes of our perceptual experiences and that they have only the primary qualities. In the course of the argument, sense data and the distinction between mediate and immediate perception receive detailed defences and the author criticises attempts to reduce perceiving the believing and to show that the Representative theory makes the external world unknowable. Jackson recognises that his views are unfashionable but argues in detail that they are to be preferred to their currently favoured competitors. It will become an obvious point of reference for all future work on the philosophy of perception.

From Metaphysics to Ethics

From Metaphysics to Ethics

Frank Jackson

Clarendon Press
2000
nidottu
Frank Jackson champions the cause of conceptual analysis as a basic method of philosophical inquiry. In recent years conceptual analysis has been undervalued and, Jackson suggests, widely misunderstood; he argues that there is nothing especially mysterious about it and a whole range of important questions cannot be productively addressed without it. He anchors his argument in discussion of specific philosophical issues, starting with the metaphysical doctrine of physicalism and moving on, via free will, meaning, personal identity, motion and change, to the philosophy of colour and to ethics. The significance of different kinds of supervenience theses, Kripke and Putnam's work in the philosophy of modality and language, and the role of intuitions about possible cases receive detailed attention. Jackson concludes with a defence of a version of analytical descriptivism in ethics. In this way the book not only offers a methodological programme for philosophy, but also throws fascinating new light on some much-debated problems and their interrelations.

Frank Jackson champions the cause of conceptual analysis as central to philosophical inquiry. In recent years conceptual analysis has been undervalued and, Jackson suggests, widely misunderstood; he argues that there is nothing especially mysterious about it and a whole range of important questions cannot be productively addressed without it. It covers a vast amount of philosophy in a very short space, advances a number of original and striking positions, and manages to be both clear and concise in its expositions of other views and forceful in its criticisms of them. The book offers something new for those interested in the various individual problems it discusses--conceptual analysis, the mind-body relation, secondary qualities, modality, and ethical realism. But unifying these individual discussions is an ambitious structure which amounts to an outline of a complete metaphysical system, and an outline of an epistemology for this metaphysics. It is hard to think of a central area of analytic philosophy which will not be touched by Jackson's conclusions.' Tim Crane, Reader in Philosophy, University College London 'The writing is clear, straightforward, and down to earth--the usual virtues one expects from Jackson . . . what he has to say is innovative and valuable . . . the book deals with a large number of apparently diverse philosophical issues, but it is also an elegantly unified work. What gives it unity is the metaphilosophical framework that Jackson works out with great care and persuasiveness. This is the first serious and sustained work on the methodology of metaphysics in recent memory. What he says about the role of conceptual analysis in metaphysics is an important and timely contribution. . . . It is refreshing and heartening to see a first-class analytic philosopher doing some serious metaphilosophical work . . . I think that the book will be greeted as an important event in philosophical publishing.' Jaegwon Kim, Professor of Philosophy, Brown University
